The place was recommended to me by locals, and is specifically requested by a local Dr. that I entertain occasionally. Every time I have been, which is 4 I believe, it has been filled with locals. I agree that it’s not great, but it’s not inedible.

Sometimes just depends on what you want. Good restaurant gumbo...the gumbo at Chris’s Poboys is good. You can also go to T-Coon’s if wanting homecooked style food. Johnson’s across from St John’s Cathedral for that style too.

More “upscale” from those. Bon Temps is good. Crawfish Tyme on Verot for crawfish. Don’s downtown has a delicious seafood gumbo, though other things there are meh. Riverside Inn is good for seafood dishes.

Pretty much everything ragincajun03 said. I would add Cajun Table to his list. It’s an unassuming little place with great food, and excellent boiled crawfish. Chris’ has the best chicken and sausage gumbo, but for poboys, I prefer Olde Tyme, or Pop’s.

Best bowl of gumbo I’ve had in my life was at Prejeans. Awesome dark roux.
Though I’ve had it other times and it was inconsistent. Still, when we’re in that area we always eat there, and it has never been bad. Not by any means on my list of top restaurants, but I like their menu and have never had what I’d call a bad meal there.
I’ve had bad meals at Landry’s and Ralph & Kacoo’s, also tourist traps, but never at Prejean’s.

This is just another case of the haughty food board doing “the food board thing”.

It is awesome gumbo!

I ate at Little Big Cup in Arnuadville on Sunday and their gumbo was out of this world good.

Cajun Table is great! Love the boiled crawfish and crabs there.

The fish is fried well, but they use too much salt.

I’ll need to try that Cajun Table place.

Been displaced in Houston area for 6 years now, so I don’t get to try the new spots much. Whenever we visit family, we like to stick to the ole goodies we miss.

I would also recommend Acadian Superette as another one of those good Cajun style plate lunch places.

I suppose we all disagree with what is classified as “awful food”, because while Prejean’s is not the best around, it is far from awful.

I’d eat at Prejean’s before Randoll’s or Landry’s.

Wasn't the chef from Dark Roux recruited to revamp the menu? My family went to Blue Dog over the Christmas holidays looking forward to a change, and it was so disappointing.

I don't know. That is where my daughter always wanted to go for her birthday. The good news is she has since stopped asking to go there. The bad news is now she wants to go to Olive Garden.
