They distill some in the Sazerac House which is shipped to KY for aging, and sent back to New Orleans for bottling. Might have to go to the Sazerac House to pick up those bottles. It seems like they would market and differentiate those bottles.

Agreed, but it's all sourced from MGP in Indiana like all sorts of brands all over the country. There's a really popular distillery near me in East TN that's hugely popular right now, but all their stuff is sourced from MGP as well.

The Original Mississippi Floated Whiskey from Three Roll Estate in Baton Rouge is good, but it's sourced Tennessee Whiskey. I also like their rum which is made locally.

YES. Put a little bit of this with clear or dark rum over ice makes for a nice summer drink. Sometime I like to put a little bit with some bourbon. Makes for a quick old fashion.

I talked with the owner one day, it is a mix of MGP and his own spirits. I don't know if there are any strictly Louisiana bourbons that I want to consume currently.

That must be the third batch, which they called a blended bourbon. I think the first two were straight MGP.

That LA1 stuff was terrible... just terrible. I know they have been bought and it's now a different product, but I can't get over how bad the original stuff was.

I'll admit some things I can't just get local and wouldn't.

But a decent vodka or rum? I'm sure there are things to enjoy as evident by suggestions.

American Whiskey and not Bourbon.

If you're going to be that guy, I'll be the "Aktually" guy...

There's a huge debate as to whether American whiskey that follows the Bourbon recipe but is not made in Kentucky can be called bourbon or not

Distillerie Acadian in New Iberia. The T Moon is decent. Has a bit of cane flavor at the start

My point was not that it was American Whiskey because it was made here, but that I don't believe it's at least 51% corn.

Bourbon does not have to be made in Kentucky, there's some really good bourbon made in Indiana (MGP).

ETA: just verified on their website they don't even market it as Bourbon, they market it as American Rice Whiskey.

I love bayou rum. I have yet to try another Louisiana brand of hard liquor that I would want to stock my bar with for regular at home consumption. I tried some whiskeys last weekend from Sugarfield in Gonzales, and they were pretty decent, but I probably wouldn't pick that over my Basil Hayden's as an every day bourbon-style whiskey.

Yes, I have a Gin problem

Ever had Vulcan Gin from Birmingham? Its distilled by Redmont distilling owned by Charles Barkley. Stopped by Matherne's across from Tiger Stadium one night, they had only 3 gins to chose from, Vulcan was the only one that seemed interesting. the other two were seagrams and beefeater i believe. I'm about 3/4s the way done, I think its a pretty decent gin, however I've only recently gotten into gin.

I have not.

Just recently did a deep dive into gin myself. From what I can tell it's less focused on high profile labels and more focused on regional batches/flavors based on the local botanicals. So taste profiles can differ pretty wildly.

A lot of the Louisiana stuff has satsuma or persimmon notes, for example.
