I see some restaurants are still doing the thing where they stick a random number in the name.

I'm happy to see that I'm not the only one with an irrational restaurant naming convention issue.

I go in with the expectation of slow service

That's a huge reason why I wouldn't go somewhere. Having a nicely paced meal is what I want. Not waiting 20 minutes in between courses wondering if the food is coming while the ice melts in my empty glass.

It was labeled BLDG 5 on the land plot, so they just kept it.

Cocha is still my current favorite restaurant in Baton Rouge, but when people ask for recs, I'm more likely to send them to BLDG 5. Hasn't disappointed yet.

There was one server for the entire restaurant. It was not her fault in anyway for the service, she was obviously overwhelmed with tables. What did aggravate me, was the owner was just chilling behind the bar the whole time while the server ran around like a chicken with its head cut off. The owner didn't help with anything. She wasn't taking drink orders, she wasn't helping bringing food out, she wasn't seating people that were waiting at the door (There were 3 groups waiting for a table when we left). I get it that staff is hard to find right now, but when times get tough, the owner should be willing to help out the one girl that showed up to work.

I would've thrown an a-hole remark at the owner before I walked out.

That would piss me off to see the owner treating the one server like that.

That shite is like motor oil. Destroyed one of my good shirts. But I never really thought Pinettas was all that great. Likely won't ever go back. Much better stuff in the area (K Street, Bldg 5, DiGiulio's, Chow Yum Phat)

Had a couple of interactions with her and she was awful. Sadly, can't imagine ever going back.

I'll second this. It used to be my wife and my favorite restaurant. That purple-teethed wino is running that place into the ground. She'd never sell, but someone else could be really successful with their food/recipes.

Used to be, and may still be, owned by attorney Dale Baringer.

It's been that way as far back as I can remember. Here's a Yelp review from 2015:

quote:

The problem is the service, because they are understaffed. At lunch the owner/manager insists on having only one server attempting to wait on 7 or 8 or more tables at a time. It's just too much for one person to handle. The server has to play the role of hostess when people walk in the door, plus take orders, get refills, cash people out, and even act as bartender if need be (which is quite often, since most tables order beer or wine). Meanwhile, the female owner/manager stands behind the bar and barks out orders but does nothing to help. Every time I go there's a new server working, and I'm sure it's because they get overwhelmed and quit. No doubt they have a high turnover of employees, because she seems really tough to work for. It's sad, too, because this would be one of the best restaurants in town if the service improved, and it's not their fault, it's the owner's own stubbornness.

Diane Berringer (husband lawyer on Gov’t)

I attended LSU from 03-08, and Pinetta’s and Roberto’s were my go-to’s for date nights. Ended up liking Pinetta’s so much, I worked there for several months. I can empathize with that story/Yelp review. I WAS that server, and that crazy broad hasn’t changed. I remember in 07, there was a hurricane coming, and BR closed for a half day on a Tuesday. Entire place filled up, and she sat at a table drinking wine, as I waited on all 13 tables at once.

Same year, she continued to schedule me on Saturdays even though I was only one on staff with LSU football Tix. First one, I was like, “I’ll work, but you can’t schedule me Saturdays any longer”. Second one I got covered by co-worker. Third one, I no called, no showed. She began blowing up my phone at 10am, and by 1030, after four calls, I drunkenly answered and told her I wasn’t coming in. On Tuesday at my house, I got a letter with a pink note in it. I asked my roommate WTF this is, he said you ever heard of a pink slip?

However, I STILL go to Pinetta’s when I go to BR. Old habits and traditions die hard.

The current owners reopened it after the original owners, The Bubola family closed it. Maybe in the late 90’s until a buyer was found. The pizza that the original owners grandmother made was awesome. Lasagna is the only thing that keeps me going. Staffing problems are affecting everyone. Even Cane’s usually great service is now much weaker than ever.
