I just saw it in chopped. I have never heard of such a thing. Anyone ever have belly?

Wagyu is just trying to make it sound even fancier.
Every belly cut is delicious and fatty. In fact , the top tier legit Wagyu ribeye or short loin cuts like a strip are almost too fatty to start with.

Like navel? I would imagine that meat packers are marketing every last scrap of lean from those cows.
Come to think of it, they're even marketing the fat and the bones.

America ruins everything. Wagyu used to mean something and still does in Japan. In America, it’s just a marketing gimmick.

Agree. You better know darn well the origins of what you are getting as Wagyu here. I buy it at Butcher Shoppe in Pensacola when I'm in town and I'd trust them. But restaurants? Probably not.
It's only a matter of time until TGI Fridays or Outback has a wagyu-onion-popper appetizer.

100% true right here.
I split a $700 Wagyu ribeye with a guy in Vegas after we closed a big business deal. Company was paying. I love, love, love steak and thought this would be the ultimate. Frankly, it was so fatty and rich I didn't care for it. It was like eating a stick of butter. Glad I had it and all but wouldn't do it again even if I wasn't having to pay.

Wagyu literally translates as Japanese beef. wa means Japan, gyu means beef.
Saying wagyu beef is like saying Japanese beef beef.

The problem with this is that there have been cattle exported from Japan to the US and Australia. So it may seem redundant, but in practice it isnt.

It's just a semantics thing that irks me. It's like if you use a common access card for work, which is abbreviated as CAC, and then everyone calls it a CAC card. In my head I hear "common access card card" and it's aggravating.
It would be better to just say wagyu (or, maybe more accurately, wagyu style).

John: Hey, want to come over tomorrow? I'm grilling wagyu!
Kelsey: What kind?

I don't know if they still have it, but Arby's was advertising a wagyu burger for a while.

I won't need to use my CAC card until after I hit up the ATM machine.

Yep, but I tried Sirloin Wagyu and it was the best I've ever had. "Buttery" beef, and not too fat.
