I need a few recommendations for a gift. Under a 100 bucks a bottle preferably, something a little more unique than say Dripping Springs/Tito's/Stoli/Goose.

I for one would like to hear a few tales of your experiences inside a room full of Russian Commies.

Sips don't lie: In a blind tasting of 21 vodkas, Smirnoff was favored over newer brands.

Smirnoff is consistently rated as the smartest, best vodka buy on the market. May want to give something "fancier" as a gift, but Smirnoff is fine for dringking.

Again, it really should have a flavor. I agree that if your giving a gift go for the pretty bottle...but I would give another spirit as a gift. Something that has distinguishable traits, i.e. whiskey.

Read this story on Sidney Frank, the man responsible for Jagermeister in America. He invented the name "Grey Goose" and only needed to find a vodka to go with it.

The mythbusters did this and the Vodka expert and even Jamie did a pretty good job of ranking the vodkas.

Doesn't change the fact that it should be essentially neutral.

A fifth is usually pretty inexpensive

I would think a half gallon of this would come in under 60

I knew the story behind Grey Goose but I didn't know that LSU, Baton Rouge and New Orleans had a hand in the national popularity of Jager. But at least with Jager it's actually something drank in Germany. I've been offered it many times there even after asking about a more local brand or one not as widely distributed but they insist on Jagermeister.

I'm a big vodka drinker and personally I'd rather have a bottle of Kettle One over anything else.

Hanger One or Chopin

My dad was a huge vodka drinker and these two were head and shoulders above the rest in his opinion.

I'm not a huge Vodka drinker but I always liked Chopin and Kettle one. I'm sure they are all fine with some bloody mary mix or orange juice...

at Specs try some good potato vodka like Monopolowa from Russia and Luksusowa. Some green tea infused vodka from Cali iswhat the wife likes. Those two potato vodkas are great and as some one mentioned, Smirnoff wins blind taste teste often.

Offshore...go to Specs and get a bottle of the Dan Akroyd vodka...no idea how it tastes, probably pretty good, but the bottle is awesome looking.

Is that a cast of his actual skull?

Skyy for me. Mixes well, no hangover, not too expensive.

That's what I buy. Either that or Three Olives, whichever one is on sale.
