The point of charging the donation fee to you as the customer is to get you used to $22/pack. The company wants to see if people will pay it, and how many people will. If it cuts their interest in half, it’s not worth it. If 75% of the usual crowd goes to buy $22/pack, then they can afford to charge that much for it normally. This is all a ploy to see how stupid or desperate their average customer is

with the improvements Tin Roof has seen over the last year I would be perfectly happy living off those if I lived in BR

snarky facebook post explaining the "donation" incoming from Parish in 3.....2.....1.....

I’m good with the donation. If they actually do it and how is anyone to know they will and it is an accurate account? I’m not picking on Parish per se, but this types of things happen all the time and low and behold the donation ends up in someone else’s pocket.

Yup. Why don’t they just say “We’re hoping our customers don’t mind paying an extra $1 per can that what this normally cost, as a donation to hurricane victims.”?

At least it would be honest.

Oh well...we all know it’ll sell out in 7 1/2 minutes.

Fully funded by the markup you’re paying.

People fall all over themselves to buy $22 4-packs of Trillium beer. A quick look a their website shows that they have 4 different beers selling for $22.20 per 4-pack (plus 2 more at $20.20 per 4-pack) right now. But Parish does it and it's a money grab.

You dont think that has anything to do with the fact that the median household income in MA is $75,000 compared to $45,000 in LA? Craft beer has become an increasingly expensive hobby since I really started getting into it a few years ago.

Sure, Trillium's overhead is no doubt more than Parish's. Craft beer is an expensive hobby, but we're also seeing breweries put many times more hops in beers now, and they ain't cheap.

But consider this. An $8 22 ounce bomber of Rogue Dead Guy Ale costs more per ounce than this 4-pack of Operation Juice Drop. And that's a shelf beer that's a ho hum maibock.

People just like to bitch.

I don't think anyone is standing in line for Dead guy ale. I would also venture a guess that the brewery being in Oregon might have something to do with the price point. Not to mention the 3rd tier markups going on that bottle. That $22/4 pack of OJD is for pickup at the brewery. So there is not added distribution or retail costs.

But I agree, both Rogue and OJD is very high price point per oz. of beer.

That's my whole point. A limited one time release (OK, they released this last year in Houston at Spindletap as a way to give back after Hurricane Harvey) should be more expensive than a flagship shelf beer. I just picked Dead Guy because it's a completely boring and easy to find shelf beer. You could certainly find many other examples by just looking at the local shelves and doing the math.

I won't pay that all the time, but would have no problem buying a 4-pack or two. If it's more than people want to spend on beer, then they don't have to buy it.

Doesnt Rogue own their own farms and winery? Admittedly I know very little about how much it costs to operate a brewery, is there something better you can compare OJD to?

Kinda. If you were talking within the same brewery, then yeah. But you are comparing west coast brewery via 3 tier to pick up at brewpub. OJD is 17% more expensive than ghost. I don't know the hop bill for OJD or ghost, but i'm willing to bet, seeing as Ghost is at 8% and OJD might be lower, that the cost to make ghost vs. OJD is pretty close.

And people won't, if they don't want to. This is a beer discussion thread. People will discuss new beers, especially by ones from Parish, considering every release there is "something" going on over there. In my, and many other's opinions, $22/4 pack is pretty high. It's a price point, that if I were in the area on that weekend, I would pass it up. Now i'm sure there will plenty of the Parish faithful lining up at the early AM hours, but that price point will turn some off.
