Green Tea Crepe Cake
Geisha Roll - Was on the Restaurant Week menu as well. No rice, which is a winner in my book.
The back is "chicken grunt" (Isaki), which was fantastic. The front two.. I'd have to check up to see what they were again.
But they both tasted like actual lemon, which was awesome since there is no lemon on them.
To the left is the scallop dish with mushrooms and asparagus. The sashimi above it was topped with dehydrated crab roe and we were given pickled wasabi to accompany it. I want to say it was Aji, but I cannot be sure. Both are the same fish. One is the belly. One is the back.
This is the filet bone marrow tartare, which I've had before, and is AMAZING.
This was the winner of the night for all 4 of us. Scallop with seared foie gras on top. Super rich, but totally worth it. We ordered a few more of these later.
To the right is the lamb. Also on the restaurant week menu. Very good.
This is a bonito nigiri, which was another winner. Ordered more of these at the end of the meal. So full of flavor.
Finally, you have the Santa Barbara Uni. If you're an uni fan, it is pretty good stuff.
Also had the brussels sprouts and the striped mackerel and the oyster shooters (always have to start with these).
A very impressive part of the night was the Ora King Salmon, which I have a video of since it was presented so beautifully. But have to figure out how to make a GIF with it.

Had friends in town who like to really go balls to the wall on some great dinners. This is our 3rd or 4th time doing an all-out fest at Umami and it may have been the best to date.
I'll go back in the OP and put captions on the photos.
Umami is not to be slept on. I used to think Yama was #1, but Umami is solidly above it these days. Everything was incredible and beautifully prepared. If I can figure out how to create a GIF, I have some nice video. Total was right at $600 after tip for the 4 of us, but you can easily have just as beautiful of a meal for under $100 here if you plan it right.
One thing that is great about Umami as well is the happy hour. $4 small plates and 2-for-1 drinks. The restaurant week menu looked great if any of you checked it out.

The bone marrow app and seafood udon are excellent. And the sushi does appear to be the best quality I’ve had in BR.

How is their crunchy roll and spicy tuna roll? Those are my favorite sushi's.

I know you're fricking with me, but I think both of those are on the $4 happy hour menu, which is pretty legit.

Been saying that since it first opened - the whole aji was the best thing I ate in 2017

Love doing Omakase at Umami-or Umamikase. It's not cheap but damn is it delicious. Went 2 weeks ago and stuffed my face. The scallop with foie gras was awesome and well as the Ora King Salmon.

Thanks for the heads up on this place. Definitely going to check this out when visiting daughter at LSU. We all love sushi and this looks awesome.

I was thinking the same thing. When I read it I was like, they are eating bait.
