This is on top of the national critic for Eater raving about the place. eater.com

While I think this is outstanding and well deserved it is also worrisome that the line will be all the way down the block. I don't know if a sandwich shop (no matter how ambitious) can handle the inevitable influx of customers and not suffer.

It is somewhat worrisome, but also really awesome news to hear. Turkey and the Wolf is easily my favorite casual restaurant in New Orleans. They seem like such awesome people who really love what they do.

Welp, I guess we can forget ever getting into TATW ever again. Good for them, though.

When will NOLA get its own damn category? It's long overdue. Give all those guys and gals from MS/AL/FLA a chance to win something, too.

I went once and my wife was in a terrible mood (she absolutely does not like sandwiches at all and clearly did not want to be there), so I really didn't have a good experience.

I'll have to go again and give it another shot.

I don't get how this place is best new restaurant.

But then again I can't think of better. Nothing really wow'd me I guess.

I really like the place, but I kinda agree. This doesn't feel like a James Beard place to me. They previous winners we've had were what, Peche and Shaya? This is an entirely different tier from that.

But if they win, good on them. I like their food.

I despise their instagram.

You just mad you didn't come up with fried bologna sandwiches and 40oz concept. I just hope I don't need to stand in line to Jackson to get them.

I dont think it needs cloth napkins to be considered.

It does have some cool concepts for food.

A lot of things sound like a wild idea from an 18 year old with the munchies.

It's quirky and what they do is great, but I don't find the place to be well rounded enough to compete seriously for the award. There are 27 restaurants nominated so I'll be surprised if they make it as a finalist. I think it's awesome they are nominated, but I see it more as a nod to doing very very well within its more narrow focus.

I get a fried bologna sandwich on Hwy 19 at Paw Paw's in Slaughter for I think $2.50. Great sandwich but I do without the 40 ounce Malt Liquor. 11th grade was a long time ago.

Great bologna sandwich, not fried , is at St Gabriel General Store. Bologna or hog head cheese sandwich for $1.90. I like both of those too.

I had Turkey's deviled eggs which are good. I want to try the meatloaf sandwich.

Haha how would you have him run his social? Maybe a little more like everyone else?

I'm all for it as I had one of my favorite meals of the year there and I'm happy the 2017 Beard noms represent the shift away from formal, minimum $50 a head dinners and into the more casual space. Which in New Orleans, after the last few years of growth is very much needed.

It's a good sandwich but not worth a wait in line

Agree. It's a good casual place that doesn't cost an arm and a leg.

you need a new wife if she gets bent out of shape over lunch.

Ive never waited more than say 3 minutes to put my order in and another 10 or so to start getting food. They have an efficient operation.

I love the place and it almost feels like a breath of fresh air as opposed to so many new places which open on the national stage. Places where they are droning on and on about foraging or choosing off set non symmetrical glazed pottery for their plates. They just serve delicious, interesting food in a very casual, affordable fun spot.
