Friend,

Neither of those restaurants should be uttered in the same lifetime as Impastato's. Your named restaurants are ontologically different from New Orleans' best restaurant. Impastato's is but a ten minute drive from our new home. But even from the old Prytania estate, it was worth the 20-25 minute drive. In fact, it would be worth a 25 hour journey through the highest mountains and the bitterest of landscapes. So wonderful is Impastato's.

Yours,
TulaneLSU

You dismiss the Eggplant Vatican? It reminds me of the only place in the country, NY, where you can get fried eggplant as an entree.

Your inability to take your blinders off is akin to those dogs who not need chew their toenails, thus be fitted with the intrusive cone.

Take your self imposed head cone off and live a little.

Ehhhh, Joe's brother' place in Lacombe is better. Sal is an evil genius with Italian Creole food.

Won't say no to Impastato's but given the choice between Joe and Sal......Veal or Trout with a Nicholas sauce wins .

I am a semi-regular customer at both, and I prefer Sal & Judy's

Thank you for the entertaining and mouth-watering writing. Impastato's was our family's special occasion restaurant as well as "impress the gourmet from out-of-town" place.

My boss once gave me the job of taking care of our special client, who was a pain, the guy was from Chicago, no matter where he was taken, it was always better in Chicago. This was 1980, the Impasto's name wasn't gold yet. After the dinner we were having a cognac, the guy said this was one of his 5 best dinners of his life.

I was a young loan officer for a bank sitting with my boss at the loan closing for Impastato’s. I’ve eaten there a couple of times and it is outstanding. I never thought it would last. Meme’s in Chalmette is a hidden gem too.
