Never heard of it. Is this something you see common at Rouses? Because in BR everything is rather affordable. Again, I’m not advocating FOR Rouses to buy your booze, I rarely do. But the stuff I do get, is usually cheaper than other more local places.

Yeah it’s Wagner’s mass produced cheapo NV caymus substitute. Basically the Meiomi of Cab Sav.

You can find it almost everywhere which is why I use it as a barometer.

What I haven’t found is any wine that’s a particular deal at Rouses.

Bourbon is a little cheaper but their selection isn’t great. Unless you catch the alcohol guy… Same with beer. I don’t drink a lot of wine, but they do have my favorite cheapo wine. Coppola Rosso

Every rouses has different selections. Which one do you go to?

They all have the same selection, the only difference is the ones with more traffic get higher end bottles. That is a Donny Rouse thing, so your local in BFE won't get a barrel pick of something but one is. Alarmed area like BR or New Orleans will.
Outside of those they all have the same stuff

I was talking about wine

But if you’re talking about bourbon. There are rouses in thib & Houma that have more dedicated bourbon programs than any store in metro Nola outside of maybe Power blvd

I'd like to know which as I visit the one on Canal and the new one by the hospital in Thibodaux and see nothing different than the ones in Ascension. They have more bottles but not much of a difference in what is offered. The newest one now has more higher priced bourbon compared to Canal but both pale in comparison to some in Baton Rouge.
I can't comment on Houma since I don't go out that way enough.

The one on canal gets good stuff they just don’t put it out if it’s allocated, except maybe a bottle at a time. The St Charles store in Houma as well.

I was only comparing them to New Orleans. I don’t know about BR

Stopped in today

Obviously a fantastic selection of everything

My big complaint was the amount of beer....
They must have had 50 cases of Ghost dated from August. Some of their Zony Mash and Great Raft stuff also had older dates and they had a ton of both. A lot will sit way past its prime. So does Total Wine send back that old inventory or does it stay with new inventory going under it?

They can send it back if it’s past it’s expiration date.

But I don’t know how closely they watch that. They’ll just keep selling it.

That’ll correct itself once the store figures out what sells and what doesn’t. A lot of the management is from other states so they don’t know what’s what here on a local level.

Too close to the FedEx warehouse and that shitshow can delay anything.

Yes and no. They have a better selection at some of the bigger locations. I have to shop at the one on Drusilla which is absolute dogshit. The others aren't that much better. In terms of alcohol, they're subpar and I enjoy TW's ability to have a seemingly infinite selection of any alcohol I feel like choose.

I really only go to local grocery stores for meat/veggies, which is all they should be used for at this point. Price gouging at these mom & pop shops turn shoppers away.

Nope. It will sit on the unrefrigerated shelf for a long damn time.

I don’t post too often, but I’m a big wine drinker so wanted to add my 2 cents. Total is great for big brands. They’re $5-8 cheaper than most places. Calandro’s on the other hand has a lot of rare stuff that I’ve only seen in New Orleans or New York. BR probably isn’t quite ready for the selection there. I think they have a somm there, but he’s hard to track down. Not big on the bourbons, so can’t really help there

3 Tails was awesome when Scott owned it. It changed hands so I didn’t really go back (though I think it went to a knowledgeable employee), but now it’s closed.

I hear Wild Child in Lafayette is awesome as well.

Calandro’s features a good bit of wine you can’t find anywhere else, which I enjoy. Their somm guy is named Ben. He has an IG account where he posts new wines. I don’t make it out there much, but do like wine shopping there.
