I find it difficult to believe that only 1 Houston restaurant is worth of the top 100 list
And I agree with Cochon getting too much national love

Yup, I agree. I love Cochon, but it doesn't stand out in New Orleans.

How the hell is galatoire's # 40? Wow.

The gas station quips that come out, any time the place is discussed here, are just sheer silliness.
It's not a quip, it's an analogy that is clearly misunderstood. It is nevertheless, valid and relevant. If it were invalid, Cochon Lafayette would still be serving patrons.

60. Berns Steakhouse... Tampa, FL
Must be one hell of a top 50 if they rate this low...
I'm aware of few other places where you can get a better steak or order a dessert wine bottled when Abraham Lincoln was in office...

I agree, I went go cochon 3 times while it was open in Lafayette. I kept giving it tries because I really wanted to like it, sadly it wasn't never better than mediocre.

I was asked to contribute to this list but was too busy with other stuff to actually fill out the ballot. Here is how all of these national food lists work (same goes for awards shows).
They poll hundreds of people. People that may have only eaten individually at 4-5 of those restaurants in the past 2 years. But these people usually read a lot about food and so they know a good bit about food and restaurant trends. So when they see a place like per se on the list, they say, "yeah that has to be a good place because so and so wrote about it, and this person raved about it, and a few years ago Bruni gave it 4 stars."
And that is how the list is voted on. Its hardly scientific.

Best meal and overall dining experience I've ever had. No doubt. And I didn't even like her on Top Chef.

I'd hate to be 41 and up.... You should be closed down if you can't beat Galatoire's.

Is it possible that the Lafayette location wasn't the same quality as the NOLA location?

Certainly.
Dramatically so, though? I wouldn't think.

You still don't understand.. So chill and I'll explain..
It's not the fact that there is boudin better down the street. It's the perception. Unfortunately the restaurant going patrons in Lafayette looked at Cochon as an outsider who was telling them something that they already know everything about. Again.. that was the perception.
I'm sure this is difficult to understand if you're not from Lafayette.. but that's how it is.

This is pretty much precisely what I argued in the previous long thread on the Lafayette Cochon, so yes I understand what you're saying now.
I didn't understand that to be what you were getting at earlier, though. Sorry.
ETA, I still stand by the point that such a mindset is sheer silliness.

Unless you have eaten there, you really can't make a comparison.

So let me get this straight, people in Lafayette aren't ok with someone else's idea of what cajun food is, but they are ok with what Tsunami says is sushi?
All restaurants are exactly that. Someone says, this is my food; it is based on my personal experiences. Not to support a place based on that criteria, by extension, means you can't support any restaurant. And we should all just eat at home.

Have you eaten at cochon in Lafayette? There are 10+ restaurants that put out better food. Probably many more, it just wasn't very good.

I was speaking in terms of overall quality of dining experience. It's certainly on par with the quality of other top places in the city, but I can get a high quality experience all over new orleans.
I agree with you that their menu is certainly unique and they offer items you won't see anywhere else in the city. I think that's why they get so much praise. They have taken a style of cooking relatively unknown to people outside of Louisiana and made it accessible and approachable.

Cochon and Commanders on this list?
They are not even a top 10 restaurant in NOLA. These list are such a joke. It is impossible for this writer to have eaten everywhere. The only thing those restaurants do great is having a great PR Staff!
