How can budweiser promote the Superbowl on cans or boxes then?

Wouldn't that be awesome if the end result were that the ATC told BMC that they couldn't sell product in LA, as long as their promotional ads were running on national tv or on their packaging? This problem would get resolved in about 3 seconds.

I just dont see the point. Usually when these things happen it is because these agencies or the gov't is missing out on money. But that isnt the case here.

We have been told that "brewers are acting too much like retailers" and that isn't the intent of the law. The law allows us to sell a limited amount of beer directly to consumers at the brewery. The manner in which we do that is not written clearly in law, but I don't believe "acting like a retailer" is illegal. The root of a lot of these current issues starts with some retailers or trade groups of retailers complaining to the ATC that brewers are "acting too much like retailers" and essentially taking their business.

When brewery taprooms are getting large crowds and selling plenty of beer and food trucks are on site selling plenty of food, someone else is losing out on that business. Follow the money... interpret that how you will.

That is absolutely retarded. Laws shouldn't be put into place to protect businesses like that because another business's success might put them out of business. Thats how a free market works, the better business will win out. If Bulldog goes out of business because too many people are visting breweries (which will never happen), fine, then just put another Parish location in BR and 2 in NOLA....

But wait, then in a way to capture Great Raft fans and Tin roof fans and NOLA fans, they will start selling beers from other breweries annnnnnd we are right back to where we started

I think it might be a waste of time to try to understand it. When the government is involved, usually things don't make sense. So many special interests are involved in writing legislation that it ends up being nonsensical in so many cases, and unintended consequences screw it up for everyone.

To paraphrase my earlier post, the rising tide of craft beer should lift everyone. The losers might be those businesses that still carry only BMC.

Restaurants have an advantage over breweries because they aren't restricted to just the beers that they make. There aren't enough breweries to really compete with the restaurants, either. How many people are going to drive all the way out to Parish for a beer? Maybe some locals in the Parish area, but for the most part, people that want Parish beers will go to a local restaurant. Ditto, Tin Roof. If Tin Roof blows up and becomes the next big thing, then all the restaurants that sell there beer will benefit. They should want breweries to promote their beer and get popular.

I suppose that some restaurants that are on the margin and barely making it might get pushed out, but the rest should benefit from it. They should host tap takeovers and shite, not fight it...

I want Parish to get bigger, so I can buy GitM if I ever move back to Florida...

If this is simply a matter of legal interpretation, it would seem to me the solution here is to simply require breweries to get a regular alcohol permit (like a bar has). Bars can sell all kinds of alcohol and can do special events, etc.

End of story.

But something tells me this isn't that simple - that someone or someones don't want the breweries engaging in these activities.

retailers/bars

last year a few local bars in Shreveport decided to boycott the local breweries because they were mad that the taprooms were so popular

which would seem retarded since bars have an advantage over the taprooms in that they can do everything the taprooms can do and more!

but instead of trying to shift with the market, they throw hissy fits
