The beer at Tin Roof isn't anything worth writing home about, but the food there is consistently good.

Yea there's no mingling there. You hang out with the people you arrive with. Pay for your $10 beer and overpriced Applebee's food. The place needs some excitement.

I've never not had a good time at MCBG when going with friends or a date. You people just love to complain.

Around here, the good ones are too crowded, and the not-crowded ones are shitty.

The genre is sort of fadding out, I'm 47 and when I go to one, I tend to be among the youngest people there. They aren't "hip" anymore. It's boomers and genx. And the Dog People. You know who I'm talking about.

It used to be a bar in the traditional sense where you walk in the door and sit wherever you want, mingle around, etc. When Covid happened, they pivoted to restaurant seated style like most bars had to do. Except - When things "went back to normal", they continue the Covid stuff for a very long time. Masks, can't move around, must be seated by staff no matter where you sit, etc.

They obviously have long abandoned the masks thing, but you're still ID'd at the door and the ID person walks you to a specific table like a restaurant host. Last I tried to sit at the bar, the person walked us over there as well I guess just to be sure we actually sit there and not at a server's table without them knowing (totally understandable).

I can't recall if they chose our actual barstools or not ( ), but we definitely weren't just given reign to walk around and eventually sit at the bar.

Nobody is going to yell at you if you get up anymore, obviously, but the official service is seated style.

It's fine - I mean, I drink in restaurants where they seat people too. It's fine. It just kinda abandons what the place was when it first opened, which was a 21+ bar.

This. A bar is a place where you're free to move about and mingle with the other patrons. A restaurant is a place where you are seated in a specific place where you only mingle with your party. You don't sit at a restaurant alone unless you absolutely have to. You can go to a bar alone nbd because you're SUPPOSED to talk to strangers and other people. You're not supposed to really do that at a restaurant.

I don't want to sit alone in a restaurant, especially when the food and drinks are so overpriced and lacking in quality relative to their peers (which makes no sense seeing as they're owned by the Chelsea's people, they should have GREAT food!!!!). If they want to be a restaurant, they need a better menu with more of the old Chelsea's classics. If they want to be a bar, they need to stop seating people hostess style and free up patrons to mingle.

I can't say that the establishment is failing at both since it is clearly quite busy and popular, but it is not a place that I find myself desiring to go despite living in the area and going out frequently. I'd rather be one of the "dog people" at Pelican where the food is both cheaper and better, sip better cocktails at Radio Bar, or drink better cheaper beer literally anywhere.

Went for the first time since COVID during an LSU game weekend last year.

It's a shame because the place looks amazing but I've been to funerals more livelier.

I went to this place before a show at the river center a year ago. Three of us got two beers a piece (four of which were just domestics and two were ipas). We each ordered either a burger or chicken sandwich. When I get the bill I noticed how high it was. I legitimately had sticker shock. Plus our food wasn’t very good and our service was poor.

The kicker was that I substituted the fries that came with my chicken sandwich for a side salad and the waiter said there would be an up charge for that and I said no problem thinking a dollar or two. Nope, they charged me an extra $7. A side salad was $5 on its own. So I got charged more for substituting my fries for a salad than what the salad costs on the menu. I would have been better off getting my fries and adding a side salad. I told the waiter to tell the manager we will never be back and why.

The upcharge seems a bit unusual, but their prices are in line with everywhere else. $5 for a pint of an American light lager and $14-$16 for a burger / chicken sandwich and fries?

Question, anyone ever go to Le Chien Brewery? My friend owns the place and has been inviting me. I want to make a trip over to try the place out.

Ok last night we had a group meet up at Le Chien, the owner and son showed me around some of the operations. You can get a shot of each beer, to find one of your liking. They have a food truck serving bar food. We ordered a couple different items between the group, an it was good. It was open mic night, they had a few on the stage, played some good music. All in all, everyone in the group agreed, we plan to go back.

I was going regularly a couple years ago when I was meeting up with a friend who lived across the street. However, since I don't live in LP and they don't live nearby anymore either, I don't have a reason to go out there as much now. They make solid beer, but it's pricy. The food trucks are usually solid, but unremarkable. Their old ale is possibly my favorite local beer I've ever had. They also make a very solid hefeveissen. I didn't find their stouts or porters to be particularly good.

How long did you live in LP? I’m trying to find out about a place that was open in the mid 70’s, Frankie and Johnnys Chicken. The best chicken I’ve ever tasted.

So, it's basically a 21+ restaurant?
