I ate Thai for the first time last week while in Dallas.

What are the good spots in BR?

I know Thai Pepper on Florida been there for years. I keep hearing about Rama and Thai Kitchen.

Rama is solid. I always get a hot pot of their chicken soup, which I l love.

Don’t care for Thai kitchen

Choo Chee fish at Duang Tawan is legit

I also like Thai chili for takeout

Thai Pepper's lunch buffet is my favorite by far, though

Thai Pepper's lunch buffet is the shite, especially the one on Saturday.

Hands down the best soup of any kind in Baton Rouge.

My Top 5:

Chicken soup at RAMA
Lobster bisque at Texas de Brazil
Cream of brie and crabmeat soup at Mansur's
Soupe Jacqueline at Maison Lacour
Hangover ramen at Umami

Any of the five can be my personal favorite on any given night.

Thai chili isn't bad but it's not good Thai. Mostly seems like run of the mill Chinese to me.

Rama , honestly , gets a little funky quick. I've had some off tasting stuff there and some amazing stuff. Service slow.

Thai Pepper - never had the dinner/off the menu items , Just lunch buffet. Always been good.

Thai Kitchen - the most consistent , buffet and menu. They will make stuff pretty hot for you, service is the best of the bunch. So therefore Thai kitchen is my suggestion.

Thai Kitchen’s buffet isn’t in the same league as Thai Pepper’s.

Did Brian Nguyen, the owner of Taste of Asia on Sherwood, ever open up another restaurant around BR? I wish I would have never eaten there because all the Thai food I’ve eaten since then hasn’t measured up.

Not to my knowledge, but if I ever find out he is opening another place, you'd better not try to stand between me and the door to the restaurant.

I'm with you. While I think Duang Tawan is REALLY good and trounces every other Thai place open in town, they're not even playing the same game Brian and his wife were when they were open.
