Does this extend to other restaurants or is it just a made up rule for sushi restaurants? I seriously doubt they all do this.

Asian owned businesses in general do this more than others. Rama was famous for only offering takeout when they felt like it And that lady wouldn’t have had a single frick to give if it pissed someone off.

It is what it is. Some businesses don’t have that type of social media presence, and certainly wouldn’t stop when in the weeds to post on each platform even if they had them.

Smaller restaurants than sushi yama utilize social media and takeout ordering systems online.

I have no idea who owns Yama, but places owned by older folks and/or immigrants seldom have the social media/online updates that your Overpass Merchants of the world have.

Or Ava Street Cafe. Which seems to have an online ordering system down.

And Chow Yum Phat.

Both smaller than Sushi Yama yet both embraced 2020.

I dig a strong social media presence as much as anyone when it’s comes to businesses I frequent, but businesses of all kinds that are run by older people have this issue. It is what it is.

Literally handled the entire situation just fine. Was polite to hostess. I still plan to eat there. Didn't say a bad word about them.

Just wondering why in 2020 a restaurant can't get it together, but sure, it's being whiny.

Must be "deliberately obtuse" day around here.

I feel they should keep their customers updated on social media or even an automated phone message that to-go orders were being paused.

I would think that the incessant busy signal would send that message...

We have vastly different ideas on what consists of "getting it together" for a restaurant. I'd say that a place busy enough to stop taking to-go orders (which implies a busy dining room too) has definitely got it together.

Frankly, I'd prefer a place that is old-school and DGAF about SM, online ordering, etc. You wanna eat, you show up. Either you're willing to wait, or you go someplace else.

You know how many mediocre to terrible places have apps, lots of SM, online ordering, etc? They may make a buck bc they're digitally savvy, but a segment of consumers are so palliated by convenience, image/visual display, etc that $shitty food continues to make a buck.

And I stand by my thread 100%. They should let people know these things but it’s their business and they can do what they want. I’ll know for next time.

Still doesn’t mean you know how to use the term “Karen” you try hard dip shite

What did the manager have to say to you when you summoned him?

Nothing, try hard. I thanked the hostess and left.

But you already knew that.

Try hard.

Isn’t it the job of a hostess to answer phones?

It’s tacky as hell to put the phone off the hook. It’s still a business at the end of the day. Imagine owning any type business and telling a customer that wants to do business with you that you intentionally put the phone off the hook

I’m sure they are accepting applications if you want to answer the phone for them.

What do you think a hostess does in a restaurant that’s at 50% and the phone is off the hook ? I’m not asking the cook or dishwasher to have a 5 sec conversation?

You’re just gonna put your phone off the hook if you can’t fulfill orders for your oysters? Ok guy

It’s not because of the hostess. I’m shocked you think that’s the issue.

It’s the kitchen.

Well you’re shocked bc I didn’t say or imply that

I’m asking why can’t the hostess answer the phone and relay that they aren’t taking phone orders?
