Saturday I am driving to Houston with plenty of time for stops. Any recommendations for specialty meat purchases along the way. Yes, I will have a 65 L cooler iced and ready to fill. Thanks for your suggestions.

Rabideaux’s in Iowa has to be on the list. Best smoked sausage in this state and that’s saying something.

Day's Smokehouse & Specialty Meats in Watson, LA.

35770 LA HWY 16, Denham Springs, LA 70706

LINK

It's about a 15 minute drive off of the Denham Springs exit.

Things to get here are deer burritos, smoked boudin, stuffed pepperjack boudin balls (softball size), and the pork cracklins.

They have a huge set of freezers with all kinds of stuffed Cajun delights and sides, as well as a butcher display of fresh quality steaks, pork, etc.

They also have daily lunch specials if you pass through around lunch time.

Nice people and awesome food. You can't go wrong.

Billy's Exit 97 for smoked boudin. Get chilled so you can freeze when you get back. Buy lots of this.

Rabideaux's Exit 44 for smoked andouille and tasso. I think the andouille is only frozen but you can get their smoked sausage chilled. Buy lots of these too.

If you're into BBQ, Houston has some amazing BBQ joints. Let us know what part of town you'll be in and the posters on here will help you.

Finally, may wanna hit up an HEB. There's one at Mont Belvieu around Exit 800.

Have a safe trip.

Another option, Kartchners (Krotz Springs) just opened their new Scott. La location. Exit 97 / Hwy 93, 1 block North off I-10 , it’s before Best Stop on the right. I stopped yesterday to pick up smoked boudin, cracklins, and boudin balls stuffed with jalapeño & cream cheese. They have lots of specialty meat products in glass door coolers just like Dons , NuNu’s, Best Stop, and Billy’s all at the same exit.

You can also get a 32oz container of dressing mix (frozen) for $5.75 and it is damn good. My wife just loaded up on a trip back from Texas.

I mean, I like HEB as a grocery store with quality items, but why would he want to stop here for specialty stuff?

In-Laws in Iowa. Right past the Loves truck stop north of I10. Get a couple of fried pork ribs. Legit AF.

Wouldn’t bother with the boudin, but worth it just for the ribs.

Yes if you’d like some boudin with your pepper, this is the place for you.

Stuffed chickens from Hebert's in Maurice. If you're going through Baton Rouge, there's an Hebert's there, as well, on Jefferson Hwy right off Corporate.

To buy some this stuff, only place who makes it as far as I can tell.

And use it to make this meet Church smoked queso dip among other things

I find Kartchner’s smoked venison boudin to be as good as any around. Definitely Billy’s for their pepperjack boudin roll ups.
