If you get a chance to drive around Austria, look for Landzeit. They have a bunch of restaurants / gas stations on the motorways. We stopped at one a few years ago and the food & the selection was good. Plus homemade hot apple strudel!

Spoiled by Good Louisiana Food

Louisiana has good food. This is a fact no one is going to debate. But the thought that no where else has good food either isn't correct, especially anymore.

My wife and I just finished up a three week road trip that took us all the way to Idaho and back, visiting 9 cities in the process. We had delicious food everywhere we went because I did a ton of research prior to our trip and ate at the local places.

Shout out to Casper, WY of all places for exceeding any expectations.

When I went to Italy I thought the food was excellent; however, I was not blown away in the same way that others are. I think our food here is some of the best in the world, so when we experience other amazing foods the comparison isn't fair.

What do Austrians make of your chin strap beard or purple and gold fishing shirts?

There are few things I use that for, mostly Cajun dishes. Using it on non La food does not sound like a great application.

You do know hot sauce is not just a Louisiana thing, right?

The Aztecs were using it 9,000 years ago both as a food and a weapon. There are now hot sauces from around the world and they are used in every cuisine to some extent.

What is this some kinda gotcha?

Of course other places makes hot sauce.

I am not a huge hot sauce person regardless. RB&R and eggs mostly.

Not a gotcha. Your comment "Using it on non La food does not sound like a great application" made it sound as though you thought hot sauce only went with Louisiana food.

I guess I misunderstood you. My bad.

Hah. No worries man. I have a bunch of hot sauce from Colorado that should be used more than I have.

Schnitzel is awesome, btw

You really want veal and fried in either clarified butter or lard. A lot of the fast-casual and street vendors in Austria fry them in vegetable oil. You also want it fully dressed and I like it with cranberries too which is usually an add on.

This is absolutely no slam on Lousiana eaters but one thing I have noticed is people born and raised in SELA when confronted with cuisine that is separated on the plate often compartmentalize it and don't work to get everything in each bite. A long discussion with my wife years ago produced the hypothesis that so many SELA dishes come fully mixed from the kitchen so it is a bit foreign to "mix" it yourself into a coherent bite.

I know Louisiana may be “overrated” to some, but I just never seem to find any good local foods

Louisiana has some great food. But I'd say Peru and Greece definitely had better food than LA

Mexico City is also up there and probably has better food
