splitting a meal at a restaurant... does it really annoy the waiters that much?

the last two times I have ate out I.have split a entree with the SO and when we ordered the waiter/waitress seemed annoyed that we ordered that way.
never been a waiter but ive worked in the service industry... does it actually annoy them.or was it just a coincidence?
I know smaller bill equals smaller tip but with me if the bill.is under 20 I usually tip ten unless the service is terrible.
just curious to.what the previous waiters have to say.

We sometimes do this and order a couple of apps and drinks. They don't seem to care, especially since we get other stuff.

As long as you tip good its not a problem

I don't split meals usually, but I've never noticed a problem when I did.
Of course we have ordered appetizers and drinks when we have so maybe that has something to do with it.

well if we are not hungry enough to get apps and split something then e just dont bother eating out... so we always get an app if we are going to split something

I go out to eat to please my wife and myself, not the waiter, I pay them for their service don't really care if they would rather I order apps, drinks and desserts.

I like the way you think

Whiny waitstaff annoy the hell out of me but you must note in this instance they don't know you tip 50% or more under $20. They shouldn't give you any dirty looks, but they are assuming standard reduced tips I'm sure.

Why do you grossly over tip? Unless you mean 10%

Why does there have to be a reason?
I grossly overtip as well.. especially on small checks. So what?
To answer the OP: I have never had a server annoyed with me splitting an entree (I do it ALL the time), and I was never annoyed at it as a server either.
At Dempsey's, you wouldn't believe the amount of old folks coming in and splitting a large poboy for $10
I don't have time to be annoyed at that many people.

Lol at the waitstaff groupies. Who really gives a frick if it annoys them. Take my 4 bucks on a 20 dollar bill and go buy you 7/8 of a pack cigs.

You didn't realize tipping 50% is overtipping?
Because when the standard is 15-20%, it is.
But then again, people lie about how much they tip on here all the time to look like big shots to the Food Board snobs
(And I was a waiter for 2 years, so spare me the crying over how hard of a job it is)

I've been a waiter, they don't care. And by the way, almost everybody tips 20% these days.
