All I can ever seem to find is Kikkoman or Lachoy. Are there other more quality soy sauces?

I pretty much think all soy sauce tastes the same. Go with Kikoman. They seem to have cornered the market.

I think La Choy tastes funny. I like Low Sodium Kikkoman.

Went to a grocery store in Bostons' Chinatown . They must have had 35 brands . Bought two and they were great . Check online . The were not as salty as Kikkoman or Lachoy .

Wan Ja Shan is the best I have had. It's as good or better than Kikkoman but has less sodium. I buy it by the gallon.

They make more than soy sauce also.

Try some Tamari sauce. San-J Tamari available at many grocers.

Brewed vs. chemically-produced.

Bourbon Barrel Foods

It's fantastic, but I go through Soy like crazy and it isn't 5x better than good old kikkoman low sodium like the price would suggest. Definitely worth a try though.

this is really not true at all

I like to try different ones whenever I go to the asian market... I found a really great Japanese one and then they stopped carrying it.

I'd post the name of it but there wasn't an English word on the label

Cooks Illustrated did a taste test a few years back. If you're a member you can login to read the results. If not, you can check out this blog reviewing the Cooks Illustrated taste test. Finally, if you really want to expand you soy knowledge Serious Eats has a more-than-you-want-to-know article all about soy.

I'm going to order a bottle of that bourbon barrel aged soy as soon as I hit Submit.

Another vote for San-J Tamari. Target carries it here.

Much smoother, richer, and less salty than regular soy.

It's also made from fermented soy beans, but the key difference is little or no wheat is used in Tamari.
