I'm new to this and looking for advice and your opinions. I'm leaning against one with having to use wifi for the sole reason if I take it to the camp or somewhere else without wifi. What brand do you recommend, model, etc... Thanks in advance!

i got an amazon woohoo deal on one; not sure the brand but it has the digital readout to set the temp and it fits in my chicken & dumplings pot and turns out some damn fine rare ribeye

I have 3.
Anova
Breville Joule
Inkbird (Cheapest on amazon, at least at the time)
I like the breville th most because of the size, but it is the most expensive and it doesnt have contol except for the app.
The ink bird and the anova are the same. so id go with he cheapest one you want to get.

My Anova is at least 7 years old, we use it several times a week. I can't imagine how I used to get a 2" steak perfect without one. Although I confess, most of the time I use it to thaw something out quickly.

Well over a decade ago when the sous vide thing hit the home market, I purchased a Sous Vide Supreme, which is it's own contained unit. It's a water bath which does not circulate water, but it works brilliantly. Because it doesn't circulate, there is absolutely no sound. Bought it for about $450 back then, and I see they're down to $400 and now with a clear top and different touch pad. May seem pricey, but you won't need to purchase another vessel, and it comes with a very practical separating rack.
It's served me well for quite some time, holds the temp to within 0.2 degrees, and if it broke today, I'd buy one tomorrow. There are definitely pros and cons to this unit and the sticks, but I'm perfectly happy with it.

I've had my Anova for years, no complaints. I quit buying stuff that only has app controls, these eventually quit working when they stop pushing updates or your device gets too old etc.

I recommend buying a cheap ice chest and cutting a hole in the top if you plan on any longer cooks. Zero evaporation loss and since it's insulated, the sous vide barely has to work once the water is to temp.

First, you really need to get one. It really opens up a lot of cooking possibilities.
Like a number of folks here I have the Anova and recommend it.
I can't think of a reason in the world why you would need an app when cooking sous vide.

I got a really good sale on amazon a couple years back on the inkbird and it's worked great.

This is interesting but i do I like the wands because you can put these on the biggest icechest you have and heat up water. Why? idk but you can do it.

I love my Anova. I never set up wifi, but the touch screen is super easy to use.

FYI I got my Anova nine years ago on recommendation of this board. Still works 100% - might be due in part to the fact that I make sure to take it apart and dry it after each use.
