My Wholefoods in East Dallas just opened a beer and wine bar. They have 5 craft beers on tap and you can buy a growler or 32 oz fliptop bottle to take some home
That sounds awesome. That is how to grocery shop.
The one in Metiairie was supposed to have something similiar but some politician got upset about the zoning/permit crap, so they couldn't do it. Sounds like Whole Foods didn't find this out until right before they were ready to open.

We don't shop there for general groceries and produce, but there are specific things we buy there. In fact we went last night. As we were walking out I said "Whole Foods basically charges you extra for making a shopping trip pleasant." It's just a cool place to wander around in and window shop. I'll be damned if I'm going to pay $13.99 a pound for shrimps though.
I do love how they sell spices. They have big jars of every spice and you measure out how much you want and put it in a baggy. They charge by weight. This is great for certain unusual spices that you're only going to use once a year. You can buy them by the teaspoon instead of having to get a whole jar which will sit on the shelf and lose flavor.

Why is your wife against cheese again?

So we can expect that your wife will never set foot in the place, huh?
She doesn't set foot in any grocery. I do all the shopping. But I'm not allowed to buy anything that contains cheese.
I'm actually glad she doesn't go shopping. The last time we went together she bought 10 bottles of assorted hair products that all contained 'tea lauryl sulfate, artificial color and fragrance.' Along with 5 dog toys that squeaked.'
The only time I enjoyed her company at Albertsons was when we were first married. She walked past a stock boy pulling a dolly loaded with 500 bottles of 2-litre cokes...I mean it was stacked 7 feet high. The wife is very pretty so the kid did a double take and the whole tower started to sway. She turned to look as the kid tried to steady it. It was like the leaning tower of Pisa falling in slow motion. Everything crashed and coke sprayed all over the place.
Wife turned back and walked toward me and said "Ooops."

Hey the men folk used to be able to get shite faced while the womens made groceries down at Schwegmanns. In STL there is the Soulard Market(picture French market on steroids). Little places inside, booths outside. One place sells burgers, dogs, etc., and beer and liqour. Nice place to shop on Saturday morning. That was one of the few things that made STL livable.

I like to get the chorizo there and make breakfast tacos

Childhood phobia. Has nothing to do with lactose intolerance or allergies. She reacts to cheese like you and I would react to fresh dog shite.
However, I have to admit that since I've known her I've discovered just how prevalent cheese is in our diets. You can't go to an event, like a reception without seeing cheese in 2/3 of the items in the buffet line.
Also on the good side, cheese isn't healthy. Lots of salt, fat and calories.
My weirdest discovery is this... I ate cheese all the time for decades. Then, after 5 years of no cheese following the marriage I made an out-of-town trip and had a pizza with cheese. Got sick as a dog.
Same thing happened to me with eggs. Years ago I gave up eggs to keep my cholesterol down. After about a year of no eggs I bought some and had them scrambled. Major stomach problems. Now, I never use a laxative. If I need one, I just eat a couple of eggs and get the same effect.

Never went to SD as it was too far of a drive from Lakewood and back then, I was poor. I would think Central Market is more like SD as they have a lot of gourmet stuff. WF has good stuff but they are more enviro, locally produced and health food conscious.

Zach, are you familiar with the phrase, "Too much information"?

Hey, PM axed the question.
BTW, I'm really pissed that Mark Davis is sub hosting for Rush again today. This crap is getting out of hand.

So, what exactly does Mrs. Zach do when confronted with such a situation?

Haven't been to the Whole Foods since it took over the Minyard's spot. Is it better than it was before (in addition to being bigger)?

WF is not like Simon-David. Simon-David is a regular grocery store with some added high-end stuff, like really big freshly baked muffins. WF is not a regular grocery store. They don't sell cigarettes or frozen pizzas or Cheerio's. You can't get the every day stuff there, only the organic, range raised stuff.
In that sense, WF is not like Central Market, and Central Market (or Mark-up
Hope that clarifies for the OP.

Whole Foods isn't all organic, pesticide free either.

Nope. Job took me to Dallas a lot. Retired. No reason to go.
I like Dallas. Don't like Houston.

There are usually some rolls or buns with butter. She eats that.
We've been to parties where the menu was:
Green bean casserole with cheese.
Broccoli rice with cheese.
Pasta/Meat casserole with cheese.
Green salad with grated cheese already sprinkled on top.
Cheesecake for dessert.

Sure they do. It's just generally more expensive. You're probably right they won't have Cheerios brand, but they definitely have little o shaped oat cereals.
