Our boy Opie is at it again. Scored some Ribs & Brisket at his grand opening of Smokin Aces in DS this past Friday. In a market where BBQ is meh at best, Opie's product has always shined. Get you some!!!

Has anybody else sampled the offerings?

Always was a fan back when he was in the Garden District. When I lived near there, I would walk my dog on the weekends and pickup his ribs or brisket on the way back home. I once got really pissed when my dog sniped the smoked boudin right off my plate. That little shite

Is this run by the same guy that had the one near BRCC that closed about a year ago?

Yep. And he had the restaurant on Government where the old Phil’s Oyster Bar was which I miss.

He just moved his catering operation or is in the process.

Ironically, I ate this for the first time today.

Had the chopped brisket sandwich and Mac and cheese. I thought the sandwich was great and Mac and cheese was ok. Will eat again and try other stuff. Best BBQ I’ve had in the surrounding areas.

I know that's your boy but you should really try the Brisket sandwich at Buddys bbq there closer to your home.

Buddys brisket is terrible.

Only thing thats halfway decent at buddys is the burnt ends, everything else on the menu is meh at best.

I just had some good ribs at David’s Mobil at Joor and Hooper. Really good-he smokes them on a big pit in the front. Craig makes a damn good cheeseburger too.

He did it well when James was alive but yes he’s doing it well. He opened the space up when they closed the DQ and it’s easier to get around too.

He and his cousin Mark can boil some damn good crawfish too.

Ate here for a late lunch today (2:00 PM). No wait and they had every thing in stock. Food was excellent. Compared to what we have in Baton Rouge, it’s no comparison. Ribs were delicious and pulled pork had an excellent bark. Sliced brisket was also very good. Sides all good. Very impressed and will make this our go-to for BBQ.

They apparently sold out of all meats by 7:30 PM last night so I recommend going early for now.

Edit: no clue how this gets a downvote. Expecting to have about 10 now

They've always had good food. I grew up right down the road from there.

Have you tried fire house in Watson they def give this place a run for their money esp on the brisket.

We had smoking aces the other night and I walked away meh. I’d go back as it was good bbq but firehouse is my go to

Two blocks from my house. James pissed me off years ago and we rarely order from there. They do have good food tho.
