Skyline Chili -- I just don't get it.

Just spent 4 days in Cincinnati. There is a Skyline Chili every square mile, and the one I went into was packed.
Flavorless, watery meatsauce on lame spaghetti noodles with cheddar cheese heaped on top. If you say anything bad about it, Cincinnatians will act like you are insulting their mother.
It's crap.

Yeah, one of my best friends was co-starring in a movie called "Carol" a few years ago, being filmed in Cincinnati. I went to see her for a few days and had skyline chili.
I had it with pasta, cheese, onions and jalapenos. It was pretty good, but not amazing. I recall that it had something unusual in it, like chocolate or cinnamon, can't remember which.
They're proud of it, like most people are regarding their local foods. I've never understood the reverence of clam chowder in Maine. Good, but...

Cinnamon in chili? For real?

Me either. I've had it numerous times.

Skyline without the pasta is solid.

Wait. Which one of the cast is your friend? I added that movie to my watch list this week. Looks good.

My wife is from cincy and her family's obsession with skyline is very weird.

I have a large vendor based in Cincy and everytime I've gone they want to go to lunch there. I don't understand the hype. It's not terrible but I'd never go out of my way to eat it either.

Her name is Rooney Mara. I've known Rooney and Kate since they were teenagers, Rooney and I shared an apartment when she was in college.

Or lobster roll. Bland as a country club board member.

Adding a little dark chocolate in chilli does make it better. Atleast for me.
