So I'm cooking a lovely lady dinner tonight and am doing it at her place. Looks like a fairly well stocked kitchen. I'm looking for something relatively simple that will go well with a Merlot. (she wants to drink Merlot tonight)

I would be intrigued to see what comes out of this. Most of the stuff I cook with red wine is based around the grill. What kind of Merlot you got?

Does she have red hair?

I just made some gnocchi with parm cheese cream sauce, bacon, peas, onions, shallots...turned out really good.

Maybe a blue cheese/creole tomato/arugala salad to start.

To home made gnocchi...I would have to ask the gf...we usually purchase from world market (its pretty good gnocchi).

I forgot mushrooms...whatever exotic mushrooms or regular one you can find. I sautee the onions, shallots, mushrooms, etc....then add in cream and while its reducing slowly fold in small pieces or shreds of the parm cheese. When it turns slightly yellow or off-white (no the white white of the cream)...I add the gnocchi and the cooked bacon and fold it into the cream sauce.

Either...its like $4 and very easy to boil first then set aside while cooking your cream sauce (boil it like pasta).

You can add anything...I had leftover portabellas, blue cheese and spinach the other day so we made blue cheese cream sauce with those ingredients....it can be a side dish/pasta or a main course.

This one is a goddess and her personality rocks. She's probably the prettiest girl I've ever dated. She's either top 1 or 2. I did date a bikini model for a while...

I think I may alter my shrimp and grits recipe to fit it. But does a cream sauce dish really go well with Merlot?

Its wednesday so it should be Merlot appetizer, steak dinner, and a BJ for dessert

On the real: Pick up some fresh watermelon for an appetizer or dessert. With the merlot i would try grilled portobellos with steak or tuna. Just ideas

I wouldn't try something out on her for the first time if it's your first date. Well, not food anyway. Seriously, gnocchi, especially those that are primarily flour based, can be like eating glue sticks if not done properly. I prefer ricotta gnocchi by a wide margin, but again, if you haven't made it before, this probably isnt' the time to try it. I'd stick to something simple, that you know you can do well, like grilling a steak. Just buy a really nice steak, nicer than you'd buy for just yourself, and knock it out. Then, get on that arse.

Sounds good, i'll have to try it. I'm not a Merlot fan either. I found some good deals on Duckhorn lately. That's about the only Merlot I will drink. Decoy is ok as well.

I'm not familiar with a lovely lady dinner but I would imagine that you first butcher the lady as humanely as possible. Then remove excess hair and bone.
You could make a spit out in the yard and baste while rotating over a pecan wood fire.

Sorry, I couldn't pass up the straight line.

This the stuff in those vacuum sealed bags?

It's really good? I've always been wary of trying it.

Duckhorn goes for about $50 at dorignacs....are you finding it for cheaper? If so, where? Its the only merlot that I have truly enjoyed.

I think its pretty strong. Lacks that pillowy quality that you get at La Boca or August...its more on the chewy side if you know what I mean...which is similar to what I had in Italy.

For $4 plus a good cream sauce, you can really hit it out of the park. My main thing when cooking them is to use contrasting texture like peas, bacon, etc....

Didn't you do the shrimp and grits for the last "lovely lady dinner" you asked about here? The word is going to start spreading....
