Shut Up and Take My Money: Radio Bar owners ponder Beer Garden

Owners of Radio Bar are trying to get a lot rezoned to open up a beer garden at the corner of Government and Steele that would also serve food and show sporting events.

It looks like it can open up and be semi outdoor or be closed up, kinda like BWW, Radio Bar, Barcadia, or Walk-on's

Probably live music, liquor, sports, and good food. Seems like a good combo no matter what's in style. As someone who lives in the neighborhood, I can attest to the fact that there are no great places to go watch a game in that neighborhood. I generally have to go closer to LSU, corporate, or all the way out to the Londoner.

People aren't going to start going back to drinking shitty beer because they finally had enough of drinking a variety of good beers. It's like asking Cochon what are they going to do when the good local food craze begins to diminish and everyone goes back to McDonald's and Applebees?

assuming they have a good porch and decent food they will be fine. People will always like to drink and watch sports in comfortable patio setting. Baton rouge is really lacking in this area as well.

Capital Heights (right behind there) is pretty much all young couples and singles under 30. Bernhard Terrace across the street is now mostly the same with lots of hipsters. Right down the street (Steele) are some of the wealthiest people in Baton Rouge, who will definitely show up if the food is good. It's actually an ideal location for the concept and there's nothing similar nearby, certainly not in walking distance, and few places with as many potential customers in walking distance as that place.

I live downtown and I go to Radio Bar all the time. I damn sure would go to this place to drink beer and enjoy the outdoors. The older LSU crowd goes to Radio Bar. They would go to this place too.
I'm just hoping the "Won't someone think of the children?" crowd doesn't come out against this. I've seen what happened to things that surrounding neighborhoods don't support -- people go before the Planning Commission and make it sound like all these bars and restaurants plan on doing is getting customers destroyed drunk and send them careening out on the streets.
