Just curious about the combination of the 2? To each his own I guess.

You dont usually pair a delicate flavor like shrimp with a strong flavor like sausage. If you want sausage perhaps you would be better served with a chicken and sausage gumbo.

My step father (RIP), who grew up in New Orleans, would request shrimp and sausage gumbo as his Christmas gift every year. My wife made it and it was delicious.
I can’t find the recipe in her recipe notebook.

Unfortunately, I don’t keep my shrimp & sausage gumbo receipts. Good luck!

Yep, this is the difference between cajun and creole. I've eaten shrimp and sausage gumbo and while it was good I much prefer only chicken and sausage gumbo.

Shrimp and crab or chicken and sausage here.

Never mix land and sea in gumbo

Use breast.

Just make a normal chicken and sausage gumbo recipe without chicken and throw the shrimp in how you want it.
It's about how YOU like it. Don't let anyone gatekeep.
Sear sausage lightly
Sear shrimp if you want
Make a roux
Trinity + pope in
Stock
Seasoning
Boil
Simmer
Adjust seasoning if needed
Serve with rice
Voila

Why not just make a seafood gumbo then with shrimp, crab, oysters?
Or shrimp and okra gumbo?

That is fine.. however, you can put it in earlier if you like, it will still be great if you make it correctly.

My family prefers chicken and sausage gumbo and I prefer seafood. I have cooked chicken and sausage and added a couple pounds of shrimp about an hour before eating. It’s pretty damn good. That’s what makes it gumbo. Cook it how YOU like it

Start with your favorite chicken and sausage gumbo recipe, and whenever it says Chicken, go with shrimp. guess the shrimp would need to be peeled, and chicken doesn't, so remember to peel the shrimp.

just make chicken and sausage gumbo but dont add chicken. At the very end, throw in your peeled shrimp and let them soak for 15 min with no heat.

we do chicken and sausage gumbo, but I add some shrimp at the end for my wife and we sift them out for her. might work
And add them like when I turn the fire off to let them soak and cook
