I see. My first time there was this past weekend.

The best Mexican is probably the taco truck on Claiborne, Taqueria D.F.

That really is sad. I hope kennerbrah comes thru and saves the metro area's mexican food.

Eh, the problem as I understand it is there aren't many Mexicans who stuck around once the Katrina work dried up. It's mostly Guatemalans and Hondurans. This is one reason we never really got a Mexican food boon post K as was expected.

Santa Fe is mediocre on a good night. Velvet Cactus is attrocious. Throw in Superior Grill for the trifecta!!
So where do you like? You come off as a wanna be R2R without knowledge. What I mean is all I've remembered of your posts is you shitting on places, but never recommending anything.

I honestly don't go out for "Mexican" food often. I accept the citys limitation on the cuisine. I do enjoy going to latin style places, Maya's, Rio Mar, La Boca, Baru, Lola. I know these aren't Mexican but it's the closest to it that I enjoy. I've never been to Galvez but would like to try.

Well then jog your memory. I suggest places all the time. The topic was Santa Fe. I commented on that. I suggest places when asked to suggest.
I did suggest not going to Santa Fe, Velvet Cactus, Superior Grill.
ETA: To VOR- Rum House

ive been a couple times.... 1st time, totally underwhelming, but was hoping it was an off night because for some reason i wanted to like it. 2nd time, made me real nice and sick. i typically have a pretty iron stomach too - every once in a blue moon itll feel a little off, so this is the only full on hope for death food poisoning experience in a loooooong time (really ever, i think). there will be no third trip.

LNCHBOX, I must have missed your contribution to this thread. Do you just lurk around trying to insite petty bickering?

It's solid, not amazing. You can order an app, paella, and sangria and come out full, satisfied, and still have a few $$. Nice cozy space.

Its been years since I hung around this area but my father recently moved there and Ive been bike riding city park and the surrounding area on the weekends when I visit. I forgot how nice it was.

It's beautiful and only getting better.
They have a nice wine shop right in that neighborhood that does weekly wine tastings.
Toups right there on Carrolton is solid, even though my last experience was lacking.
Explore the area. Lots of new places to try.

So now you start recommending places ?

I've been to Santa fe twice in the last 6 mos - its inconsistent. First time, food was very good (tuna special and ceviche apps). 2nd time - tuna presented well done - sent back. 45 min later, waiter appears and apologizes that they are now out of tuna. Without asking what else I might like to order, they presented me with a combo plate which was borderline edible (but gratis). Enjoy the outdoor dining and view of Esplanade, but somewhat hesitant to give it another shot.

When I think of O.B. and TigerWise I think of Siskel and Ebert. Not sure why.
