Most of those places are meh at best and all the same. My wife worked at Texas land and cattle and a Texas Roadhouse in college so I always ask when we pass any of those whether it's a saltgrass or outback if that's the one she worked at.

5 years later and she still doesn't find it funny.

The clientele is usually the same as Applebee's or something. She's told horror stories of kids eat free and 2 for $20 diners.

I love TR, those rolls and butter with the bone in ribeye is great for the price.

yep. every steak i've gotten from TR has been cooked properly. can't say that about most other places.

their fried fish is excellent too.

but like you said, 99% of the time if i want a steak, im cooking at home.

Had an awful experience at the one on the boardwalk in Bossier. My wife ordered the chicken which came out pink in the middle, which we obviously sent back. Instead of doing a fresh chicken breast, the slapped the same one she cut into on the grill for a few seconds...the part she cut into was now cooked, the rest still pink. At this point she gave up on her meal and sent it back saying it was inedible. I watched as the waitress took the plate to the manager who shrugged and let it go...never once did he come to our table to apologize, see what he could do or how he could make it right. When I got the check the chicken was still on there. I said hell no that I wanted to see the manager who had disappeared. At this point my wife was uncomfortable and over it so I paid it, left and left an atom bomb of a yelp review...

All this to say, my steak was pretty solid...so there's that

Longhorn. God awful

I like Longhorn okay, but I've only ever gotten a salad there with grilled chicken on it.

Last time I went to Outback I was pretty embarrassed for them, but that was 15 or so years ago.

im telling you, the TR in Lafayette is something else. place runs like a top, great service and food is always really good. like i said, that's the only one I've eaten at, so I can't comment on the others, but I love it for a cheap and quick option

I'll take your word for it because I will never be going there.

For the price of a choice steak there I can get prime at the grocery store. I only eat steak out at the nice steakhouses which are on every corner here pretty much. And even some of those are meh.

Saltgrass Steak House

I have had once or twice and it's pretty good. That being said I try to avoid Tillman Fertitta establishments because the dude is POS and fricks hard working people out of money regularly. I think every building he has built recently has a lien because he refuses to pay GC and then just fights in court because its cheaper for him that way.

Saltgrass is easily better than Outback or Texas Roadhouse in terms of quality

It's more than Outback but not much better. Texas Roadhouse is a much better value for budget steakhouses.

I haven’t had outback in years and don’t remember if I have had Texas Roadhouse but I think Saltgrass gives you a fine meal for your $$.

My daughter(10) wanted to go to outback after church one day for a steak. So we go and she orders a steak with no pepper. My wife ordered a salad. My daughter’s steak was spicy as shite. My wife found the top of a plastic ramekin in her salad. Never again.

Had a buddy wanting to eat at salt grass when we were at the golden nugget...convinced him to spend a few more bucks and go to Vic and Anthonys. Much better meal.

Food is good, not as good as longhorn or Texas Roadhouse though. The customers at the veterans location were very loud though.

I’ve heard some people rave about Saltgrass, but after trying a couple of them it’s rather a mystery to me. These are second tier steak houses without prime beef. If I had to choose one, it would be Texas Roadhouse without hesitation. Better sides, better service, better value.

As an aside, the toughest piece of beef ever served to me was at Outback. My arm was tired from sawing the steak and my jaws were sore from chewing.

Depends where you go to one. If it's a stand alone restaurant, the prices are probably not bad and the steak is probably fairly decent.

The only one here in town is in the Golden Nugget casino so the prices are way overpriced.

I have a hard time paying for that, even if it is actually a great steak. I got a steak at Outback for my birthday last year and it was absolutely terrible. I can grill a better steak.

I worked at the Outback in Lafayette during the early to mid 2000s and thought it was the best chain restaurant around. We went there recently for nostalgic purposes and the place is now just like any other chain. The quality and portions are not what they used to be. Completely mediocre.
