Would you drink sake made locally from Japanese strain rice grown in vermilion parish?

That stuff really sneaks up on you.

I could never get into it. Always tasted like watered down vodka.
Although I might not have been drinking high quality sake

Because the good stuff is $$$.
Baws aren't going to pay $50 for 300ml of junmai Daiginjo that's only 12% ABV.

First time I had some it was plum sake at a Japanese restaurant.
I thought this stuff ain’t nothing. When I got ready to leave and stood up I realized just how hard it hit me lol

Good quality cold sake is delicious.

I always thought Pete's Sake was pretty mainstream here in the US. Maybe not as big as Pete's Wicked Ale a couple decades ago but still hear people refer to Pete's Sake almost daily.

Pete’s wicked ale was my gateway to craft beer

How important is the strain of rice to sake?

Sounds like you’re describing cheap draft sake. Sake varies dramatically. If you find yourself at a decent sushi/Japanese restaurant with a sake menu, ask if they offer a cold sake flight. I know doing one years ago at Tsunami opened my eyes to saki.
And that’s to say nothing of the staggering amount of choice available in Japan itself.

Years ago I got invited to a Japanese company opening in Oregon, they had a wooden keg from Japn they opened with a sword and served in Sqare pine box mugs, had salt on the rim optional. More like tequila to me., very good.

I love drinking hot sake when I’m having sashimi. Clears the sinuses and cleanses the palate.

What? Do you work in a sake store?
I've literally never heard anyone refer to Pete's Sake.
