Gravy - this is the most common type. Its hot chopped roast beef served in a thick brown gravy that can range from spicy, to just salty, to even a tiny bit sweet. I would point to Parkway tavern in N.O.

I tried this for the first time in NOV. I got the surf n turf, thought the gravy (which tasted bitter) ruined the entire thing. The bread was outstanding though, would just go w/ the shrimp next time.

I got into this conversation and I found out that Brothers originally came up with the Hot Roast beef sandwich.

Hey thanks for the history update.

What? Brothers is owned by Persian guys who weren't even alive when the sandwich was invented.

Danny & Clyde's (when they were all over the place) made the best poboys around. Hard to beat their Roast Beef Poboy, or their French Fry Poboy, or the D&C Special. That one was the best.

Yes. While their poboy is good, it's a bit overrated.

R&Os is killer stuff. I think people don't like their bread, and I get that, but the roast beef and gravy is perfect.

Sesame seeds do not go on a poboy.

You forgot about cold roast beef, with, or without gravy, and I prefer it without.

This was around the same timeframe the Italian Beef sandwich was made popular in Chicago.

1 is more like 2 -3 charahories

There is the pot roast debris style where it’s cooked down

There is what I’ll call “sliced and soaked” where the RB is sliced the. Cooked again in the gravy. My favorite.

Then there is the “sliced and spooned” where the gravy Spooned over the sliced RB.

I also Love a crispy French bread. If it’s pulling then you’re just going to squeez our the RB.

Blue Playe always.
I’m a big fan of World Deli in Metry and Demartinos on the Wank (their bread isn’t great though)
