Freddie was killed in a car wreck yesterday morning not far from the restaurant. One of our favorite haunts in Funroe for many years. Not the best executing restaurant by any means, but you had to love it for what it was. We would slip over there often for dinner. Not sure what will happen to the restaurant. I cant really see it going on without Freddie. If it closes it will be the first time in the better part of a century that Monroe won't have a Cascios restaurant in operation. Sad deal. RIP Freddie.

I was so sad to hear about this.

Praying for all his family and loved ones. Any loss is hard, but a sudden accident out of nowhere is especially shattering.

Friend,

I am sorry for your loss and the loss to your community. It looks like a fine establishment. I would be thrilled to read a tribute with some memories from the restaurant including best dishes.

Yours,

We always enjoyed Cascios. Reminded me of my grandmas cooking and he had a fantastic burger! Very sad loss

Was he related with Victor Cascio? It has been years since I lived in the area so I can't remember. Holidays with Victor was legendary.

When I got to go into Monroe, I planned the itinerary so that we could eat Catfish Rosie for dinner.

It will be missed

Freddie’s was our go-to in Monroe; we moved away almost 20 years ago, but have great memories. It was our neighborhood restaurant, probably less than a mile from our house. We saw Rosie (the waitress & Freddie’s sister) more than we saw some of our friends. They had 2 for 1 ribeyes on Thursdays, but my favorite was probably their crawfish enchiladas. So sad to hear about Freddie.

back in the day there was a game room there next to Gene Cox. We rode our bikes there after school almost every day from Jack Hayes (taking the back way through the rec)

2-1 Thurs ribeyes were legendary

I talked with my old man yesterday and he told me this. Sad news for good ole Funroe. He was always a joy to be around anytime I would come in.

RIP Mr. Freddie.

He was frequently there in either his Toyota minivan or his blue 66 mustang. Easy to spot in those cars.

Anyone know what year the place opened?

So it’s official. The place is done as many assumed. The family was selling off the contents.

A Monroe institution is gone.
