Things that annoy me:

1. Auctioning off food table side. (ex. Who got the chicken?)
2. When serving food, stand to the left of the patron and serve with the left hand.
3. Failing to bring all of the apps, entrees, desserts out at the same time.

I swear this is the last time I go to Picadilly!

So what if its a food runner who brings out the dishes? He doesn't know who had what. So maybe he should just give food to people at random...

every place should do this? GTFO

If you knew anything about anything you'd know that a well trained staff has a system in place where you don't need to auction off food.

Imagine a square with each side labelled. (ex. 1,2,3,4).

When the server takes the order it would look like this.

1. chicken w/ baked potato
2. ribeye (mw) w/ baked potato
4. fish (sauce on side) w/ veggi

Imagine the food runner looking at this same sheet when he returned to the table and dropped off chick at seat 1, beef at seat 2 and fish at seat 4 all with the appropriate side. Its pretty simple really.

You get the lazy / incompetent jerkoffs in baton rouge that call themselves "waiters or servers" to follow instructions like that, and I'll make you a millionaire ten times over the first year training staff all over the city.

Simple isn't so simple when in baton rouge you only need a pulse and half a brain to wait tables. Oh, and if you've got big tits, you need neither of the first two.

Blee dat

The items should be written in a specific order on the check, then placed in a specific order on a tray so that no matter who runs the food, you know where it goes.

This is is taught on the first day of server 101.

This and picking up the plates before everyone is finished eating.

It's called "pivot points" and every good restaurant with a seating chart should be able to train this system.

I want my table bussed. If a plate is empty, I want it off the table. I can't stand dirty, empty plates/glasses at the table. Really bothers me when servers don't pre-bus.

I think it's rude to pick up the plates before everyone is finished eating, especially if there is a lady still eating, which is usually the case. Men generally eat faster than women. It's also annoying to have dishes clanging and being piled on top of each other while you're still enjoying your meal. Perhaps, you are a fast eater and haven't been the last person to complete your meal.

At the finer restaurants in which I've dined, the dinner plates are not removed until everyone is done and, usually, the plates are delivered to each diner, simultaneously, via multiple servers. They are removed in the same manner. That's high class.

Agree. Does not happen to me often, but is off-putting when it does happen.
My SO finishes eating way before me (understandably) and it's pretty uncomfortable to have to finish eating when he has no plate in front of him.

It sounds like you're referring to app plates and salad plates and whatnot, and obviously they should remove those before the main course is served, but you don't think it's rude for them to pick up someone's dinner plate while someone else is still eating? That's uncomfortable and disruptive.

If someone's self conscious because they're a slow eater, it doesn't really concern me. I just don't like my dirty plate in front of me.

I'm a fan of this at a nice restaurant as well.

We practice this when we have dinner parties as well. I wouldn't dream of leaving the table to start picking up dishes before all of my guests had completed their meals. It says, "hurry up and leave".

Having a finished plate in front of you for some minutes before all are through eating is not exactly a huge penance. It's just plain good manners. I find it selfish not to consider other dining companions.

I notice that the most upscale restaurants leave your cup after picking up the trays so you can get another free refill.

Plenty of places have this rule in place. It's that the servers are too lazy to implement the system.

You know nothing

I guess I'm just too laid back, I could care less. I eat about 75% of my meals out, I've never heard this as a concern of anyone I've ever eaten with. Not that I remember anyway.

ETA: Gris Gris, I'm not trying to shite head you or be difficult, I really like you as a poster and person, but I swear this has never bothered me before.

This is so true. Nothing makes me angrier than losing my cup when they pick up the trays. Lulz
