So my wife (no pics) bought some steaks yesterday(Saturday) for our Thanksgiving camping trip. We plan of cooking them Friday night. Is that too long to keep in the fridge? Should we freeze them?

Just cook them well done and you’ll be fine.

If you have questions? Salt them. It will cover whatever worries you have for another week or so.

What is the sell by date? Should be good for at least several days after the sell by date.

You could freeze them now if you are concerned.

They won't kill you but I would not have bought them that early.

I seem to remember some poster on here kept ribeyes in his fridge for 30 days or so. They turned out fine.

Steaks have a good fridge shelf life. Usually 5 or more days after the sell by date. But could go even longer.

Who was the poster that aged thin cut steaks 30 days and they were all green, anyone here remember that thread?

The color will change to a greenish brown, and have a bit of a sweet smell to them. They will be fine.

I’d like to downvote whoever upvoted my post. I thought I’d finally found a combo on which the F&D board could reach a unanimous decision: opposition to well done, month old steaks. Oh well.

And to the OP, my post was meant as a joke. But you could also loan them up with ketchup. The acid would definitely kill any bacteria. Good luck.
