They're not light or cheap but I love my Le Creuset pots.

I would recommend against the cast iron for beans, and I am usually recommending cast iron all the time. I would get an enameled cast iron over the one you posted.
The Magnalite is a great pot and time tested. I would ask family if they have one lying around.
Guardian Service cookware can still be found on eBay. I love my pots.

I like McWare Cookware. They're out of Mamou, a lot like Magnalite. Real easy to clean, heavy duty. They sell them at some of the bigger local grocery stores -- I saw a big display at the Rouses on Burbank over the weekend. Think Goodwood Hardware also has a nice selection.

If anyone knows of a brand of clear plastic storage containers that don’t get damaged when reheating food in the microwave, I’d like to hear about it.

If you want something different and high end, try a Finex Cast Iron Dutch Oven (5 quart). Usually $300, but can be found on sale for $250 occasionally.
