I have to travel to Philly for a conference and am looking for restaurant recommendations.

I just had a very nice meal at Zahav. I would also recommend checking out Reading Terminal.

Definitely hit up Angelo’s for the cheesesteak. The pizza is great but the cheesesteak is fantastic.

checking out Reading Terminal
Reading terminal is fantastic. I was very disappointed in the famous pork sandwich vendor there. Do not recommend.

Dinic's? I was also not impressed at all. Dry, flavorless. The pics from that one in Columbus, OH on here recently looked way better.

It's like the fourth or fifth largest city in the country. You have to tell us what part of town and what you want. There are literally thousands of good spots in cities this big.
Random suggestions
Wood street pizza
The Saloon
Ralphs

Can't say enough about Del Rossi's (cheesesteak and a cheese pizza) and Vernick Food and Drink. Drinks at Four Seasons rooftop bar as well.

I don’t know if it’s still there but we w t to a place called City Tavern. They served colonial cuisine and the staff was dressed in colonial attire. It was something different to try

I like recommending places in Philly but its been over 10 years since i lived there at this point so take my rec's with grain of salt
Center city area
Dandelion: My wife's favorite restaurant. English pub food upscaled a little.
Village Whiskey makes a mean burger and cocktail
More east
Zahav as mentioned earlier was always great
More south
Brauhaus Schmitz was one my favorite places. just good old fashion german beer hall. Place is big.
I doubt you will find yourself in University city or West philly but if you do
Local 44. small place with good beers and good pub food. This was one of my local stomping grounds.
White Dog has a pretty standard selection but always done well.
Distrito was a fantastic new mexican place in Uni city, but it closed a few years back. i was heart broken when i was visiting the area and saw the sign.
As others have said, check out reading terminal market. its a cool place. I also agree the Dinics pork sandwich is very, very over rated. Unless you really love bitter broccoli rabe and dry pork. I will say go to Becks cajun cafe and get the trainwreck po boy. i always thought it contended with some of the best cheesesteaks around.

If you can't get reservations for Zahav but still want Israeli, go to Laser Wolf.

My wife and I went to Friday Saturday Sunday back in the spring and had a great meal. It’s one of the three Michelin starred places in town.
Angelos was great. We got a cheesesteak and a pizza and I think we honestly liked the pizza more. But both were awesome.

Superette is a popular French market with a few tables and seats at the bar. Had a good lunch there.
Ray’s Happy Birthday Bar has no food, but it was my most fun stop in Philadelphia. Small dive bar full of locals. Everyone orders the citywide special, $4 for a can of Lucky Streak beer and a shot of Windsor Canadian whiskey. They were doing loud Eagles cheers at 2:00 pm in the middle of summer. Fun stuff.
Triangle Tavern was another good bar stop. The bartender and a customer pegged me immediately as an out of towner and asked how the hell I found them. I explained that I used AI to find cool, local bars. They gave me the tip on Ray’s.
Reading Terminal Market was by our hotel, so I went every day. Many great options, but breakfast at the Amish Eating Place was a favorite. Old Time Coffee in there is also great.
Tria Cafe Rittenhouse was very good. The Dandelion pub is across the street for beers after.
Michelin Bib Gourmand winner Del Rossi was our cheesesteak and pizza stop. It’s mainly for to go and deliveries, with just a few seats for eating in, so be prepared for that.

I think I must be the only person who thinks Reading Terminal Market isn’t all that. Every time I’ve been (5+ times) it’s shoulder to shoulder packed and the food has just been average.

yes if your person averse it probably isnt a place to visit. it will be packed.
I think food wise you kinda gotta know what to choose from the plethora of options. Some gems hidden in a lot of mediocre.

I had some good roasted duck there from a Chinese spot, but the entire experience just isn’t worth the hassle. A lot of the vendors can be had elsewhere.

There is a popular Cajun place in the center of Reading Terminal Market. They give out samples. I told the guy his gumbo was more like étouffée; it was decent tasting. He said they had étouffée too and gave us a sample. I gave no comment on it; was bad.
