Why boil them in unseasoned water? Couldn't both pots be seasoned?
Posted on 2/21/18 at 1:42 pm to atxfan
Seasoning both pots would increase price due to Seasoning. No one answered my original question. If season pot is at room temp or cold how does the seasoning desolve???

Pretty sure you would bring seasoning water in the pot to a boil at an earlier time and let it cool off for later use

Ok well If that’s the case then I don’t know how it saves time. You have to get it hot and wait for it to cool back down.

As has been mentioned multiple times it's only practical if you're boiling crawfish all day long. Not 1-2 batches in the back yard.

Yep, using clean water allows you to boil in clean water and you are changing out just clean water often and the seasoned water has to be changed less often. If you are a restaurant, saves a ton of money in seasoning.

I help my friend Boil Crawfish in large amounts at a time that’s why I was inquiring trying to see if He can save time. I agree water would have to be hot to dissolve.

boil crawfish, lift pot and rest at 45* angle to sit on top of pot to stop cooking.
after 10-15 minutes drop basket back into hot, but not boiling, water and let soak for 30 minutes.
there is no overcooking and the cooled off crawfish sucks up seasoned water better then hot soaking does.
that is how i do all my boiling and nothing ever overcooks

I understand but your still soaking them for 30 minutes. I would like to know how others getting the same results as the 30 min soak only soaking them for 15 minutes?

Most of that time, though, the pot isn't to temperature.
When I was a kid, I cooked them in the boiling water for 12 minutes. They were overcooked. I adjusted, and now, they are not overcooked.

Didn’t anticipate this thread going 4 plus pages of controversy
I’m boiling a 30lb sack this evening for a curiosity test run. I have 2 large pots/burners and one smaller pot that I’m going to use for the corn, potatoes, garlic and shrooms. Will report back tonight with the results

I am sure it will come out fine. The regular method comes out fine as well. Stop treating it like rocket science.

How about steaming in pot 1, then soaking in pot 2 filled with warm seasoned water?
By the way, salt does not dissolve much faster in hot water vs room temp. There is only a very small difference in time. Both temps will dissolve salt just fine.

Amen
But tbh I have to think your soak water has to be 157 versus 160

Careful. It all depends on the humidity level that day.
