I just hope Rouses carries it.

That's where I always snag Green Flash. Had some of their Le Freak recently for the first time, it was pretty good.

Sierra Nevada Pale Ale

I see a lot of guys chime in with Rogue and Stone.

Sierra Nevada is where to start with Pale Ales. It is very good IMO. And easy to drink. If you spit out Sierra Nevada, you may as well leave Stone and Rogue on the shelf and the money in your pocket.

You are either a Pale Ale guy or you are not. Sierra Nevada is the test.

Upvoted. Anyone know where I can find this in the Lafayette area? Been living in PA the last 5 years, drank it all the time up there.

I love Guinness! Sam Smith Oatmeal Stout, Young's Double Chocolate. If those two don't do it for you move on.

IF stouts aren't your thing, then go light.
I would try a New Castle for an amber colored beer.

All the craft beers will taste better to you once you spread your wings, but the big names will be what tastes better to you now. New Castle, Chimay, Duvel, Stella Artois, Bass, Grolsh. I read a suggestion about splitting six packs with singles, do that and find what you like. If there is a brew shop in your town, go there. They will have several styles on tap from home brewers. Those guys will set you in the right direction once you taste some of their home brews.

I see almost everyone is listing Envie and IPA's and other very hoppy beers that are similar. Just know that if you jump right into pale ales with a lot of hops it can off-putting at first. Most people don't just jump into Envie and think "this is awesome". It's an acquired taste and it may be too overbearing initially. Don't write them off. I would suggest possibly something more approachable like Belgians, pilsners and flavorful lagers at first, then branching into pale ales.

-Sam Adams Boston Lager
-Blue Moon (a Belgian white that most people start out on)
-Canebrake (wheat ale)
-Great Raft Southern Drawl (pale lager)
-Great Raft Corrupt (black lager)
-Shiner Bock (light easy drinking beer)
-Goose Island Pils
-New Belgium Fat Tire (easy drinking Amber)
-NOLA Blonde
-any Octoberfest
-any Saison
-any Hefeweizen

Then branch out into hoppier pale ales and hoppier pilsners

-Parish Envie
-Great Raft Commotion
-Sierra Nevada Nooner Pilsner
-Founders All Day IPA
-Green Flash West Coast IPA
-Stone Go To IPA
-Porters & Stouts

If youre digging these, then go for more extreme

-Stone Ruination
-Parish Ghost (when you can find it, good luck)
-Parish Dr Hoptagon
-Russian Imperial Stouts

it's an extremely light stout on a Nitro tap.. I am not a huge guiness fan but I find it funny when people think it's a really heavy beer.

It has fewer Calories than a Budweiser but people act like you order a milkshake.

Green Flash makes a stout and a porter that are pretty tasty; and they do sell some of their lineup in 12 oz bottles.

I overlooked their double stour for years and I am kinda made about that. It is a really good beer that is nearly everywhere.

Just go out and spend the $12 for a 4 pack of Goose Island Sofie.

This thread resurfaced a memory I forgot I had from when I was trying to get into beer and used to frequently pick up Wells Banana Bread beer from World Market.

I can't find Bass Ale anymore and I can't find Smith Wicks. Chimay is great and available as is Guinness Stout .

What available beer tastes closest to Bass Ale?
