I think hot weather will speed up the weight loss. There is a lot of yard work and gardening to do, last Saturday I wore a heart monitor and started in the yard about 9. Had to move some dirt, cut the grass, weed pulling, planting, putting in a garden border, I did take an hour off for lunch, but by 4:00 it showed a 2,350 calorie burn. That broke me through the 258 plateau.

Thursday and Friday are going to be a good test of my willpower. Friday is one of my best friends' wedding, I can't miss that. Thursday night is the rehearsal dinner and they REALLY want me to go since I don't get to see them often.

Any typical wedding reception finger foods that would be okay for me to eat on? What about the snausages or meatballs, do you guys know if the sauces have carbs? Or should I pack something and eat it prior to?

only plain salted peanuts

AVOID AVOID AVOID! yes, these things will kill your diet.

winner winner chicken dinner. stuff some jerky or some almonds or macademias in a ziplock and carry it around if you feel the munchies coming on.

of course, being able to resist all thees foods is a gauge of your motivation as well..so you have to decide how to handle it.

ultimately you'll be confronted with these choices..the 'carry something' will serve as a crutch in a pinch..but YOU have to have the discipline to avoid falling into the grazing trap. weddings are the worst.

hulk, you've come a long way already..don't blow it before you get into a good rhythm.

Thanks for the advice. I'm not going to blow it, I was just hoping there was something I could eat on while I was there, but if not I'll stay away. I've never been so motivated for really anything in my life, this is exciting.

be an a-hole for awhile. make this your one and only focus and who the hell cares what everyone else thinks?? you're doing this for you.

my other piece of advice..which gets me through all kinds of pinches...is to remember you can do anything for a day..or an hour...or 10 minutes.

use that in times of weakness when someone shoves a cake into your hands. say to yourself 'i will reward myself with a nice tasty steak or something when i get home if i dont give in'

you'd be surprised how well that works.

added bonus: by the time you get around to making yourself your 'reward' your appetite will have dropped..not being in the presence of a gigantic piece of frosted cake does wonders.

"own" your food space. i know you have a roommate but try not to cheat at home. cheat at a bar or something..but not at the place where you prepare proper meals. thats another trick. tell yourself 'i'll cheat at so-and-so place'. keep your main food prep place 'cheat free'. that way you dont have to feel like 'well i gave up once here..i'll do it again'.

if you set your mind to cheat only at say the bar down the street..then its more of a PITA to get off your arse and go there to cheat again and chances are you wont'.

eta weight-loss is a HUGE mental game btw.

Definitely. I've done it in the past and I think the prior knowledge is really coming through in helping me. My roommate and I have our own separate foods now, although I do offer to share my burger patties and stuff with him. But the other day he cooked some spaghetti, which is one of my favorites. I managed to not only not eat any, I didn't even taste it. I just went in my room, ate a cheesestick, and played on my computer to get my mind off of the fact that there's spaghetti in the kitchen. It's all mental, and that's what makes it hard.

One thing I can't wait for is for me and my friends to start having pool parties again. We always grill steaks, chicken, etc and play and hang around in the pool all day long. Great excercise and I won't be breaking my diet. It's definitely becoming warm enough to start those up again.

And I can be an a-hole for a while, for sure. I already laid down the law with my friends that if I go out, I'm not drinking. They respected that I'm so serious about this and I don't think I'll have a problem with them trying to get me to drink anymore. If they do, I'll leave. Simple as that. Told them I'll be their DD as long as they don't pressure me to drink.

I'm back. I broke the 200 lb mark this morning. I stopped tracking everything obsessively but still watch what I eat and I am in the gym at least 3 times a week. 232.4/198.8. Not sure where I want to be weight wise, preferably any weight I can reach under 20% bf.

Great job on breaking 200!

Hulk

There is going to be nothing at the wedding you can eat. Maybe cheese if they have fruit and cheese.

Maybe some vegetables with ranch dressing but not too much ranch as it has some sugar.

Meat. If they have any plain meat, you can eat that but avoid anything that has been sauced.

You are probably just entering induction. Don't get yourself kicked out.

I know you like to be social and you can't avoid this wedding, but you are probably going to have to be a little bit of a hermit for this to work.

Putting yourself in view of tempting food and beverages is just not a good way to stay on the diet long term.

So, stay away from booze, sauce, break or anything fried. You can eat some veggies or plain meat and cheese. Anything else will knock your arse right out of induction.

That's true, cheese and a couple of veggies can work. Thanks Myth. I'll be okay, I'm not going to knock myself out of induction.

Is it too late to get in on this? Is it start/current/goal? A couple friends and I did a biggest loser for 3 months in '09. I went from 240ish to 220, but I lost the bet. I kept it off for a long time, but lately I've crept back up over 230.

I started yesterday at 232, and I'm shooting for 205.

Wal-Mart is officially on my shite list.

I placed my bike order on the 21st of February. I figured it would immediately be processed as the bike was in stock at the store I selected for pickup.

I was then sent a pickup date of 2/28 - 3/4. I was pissed about this so I made a stink about it. I sent them a few emails. They responded apologizing for my confusion. That made a small vein in my skull explode and I am now 32% dumberereer.

They did promise I would receive a phone call on the matter within 1-3 days.

That was 5 days ago.

The shitty tracking system has been stuck on 2/23 until just a few minutes ago.

Great news, the shipment has been delayed and now I can expect the bike by 3/12.

Another vein just sploded in my hed end i seam too bee havin prolems with me braim compaertmwnrt.......blarghhhh!

This may be where I differ from the rest of you in weight loss philosophy. I know that watching what I eat, planning ahead, etc. will be part of my life forever - as will social events, holidays, temptations, etc. So I still go to every social event I want to go to (which is probably at least once a week). Do my research before going and stick to my plan.

Yes, I understand that Hulk is just starting and a big night of slipping up could derail the journey altogether - so I see a difference there.

But I haven't felt deprived since starting this in October and could keep up this lifestyle forever (which I know I will have to do). Sure, my pace of weight loss (5-6 lbs per month) might not be as stellar as some, but as long as the scale keeps moving down, then I'm doing good.

Just my 2 cents.

Not many people can lose weight that way. They need to see big results or eventually they lose steam.

Plus if you put yourself in temptations sites to often you are bound to slip big and with any diet slipping big can lead to quitting.

I'm a firm advocate of hermit mode until you have a big enough head of steam going to be able to withstand some slips.

Just as the alcoholic in recovery needs to avoid bars, I believe the foodaholic needs to avoid dangerous situations at least until they have the big mo behind them.

My two cents even if it is only worth a penny.

I guess we will agree to disagree (might not be the first time)! Hermit mode would have made me quit by now

shite, I even gained 2.2 lbs in December, but was back at it full steam in January and lost that 2.2 plus another 2.6 in one week.

I will add that I have a friend that is doing this with me and going to the WW meetings, which helps even more with accountability and perserverance.
