Don't want to burst your bubble.
No.
Dogs are great but deserve to be treated well and thus are huge commitments. Will he be locked up all day whiles you're at work. How often can you walk him. Can you afford to evac with it? or board it when out of town. Who do you burden with it when you can't. If you think a vet is pricey, wait till you get a ticket for an unvaccinated dog.
Get a gerbil.
No.

good job Shaw.
just start with some pushups and Pilates. A pair of dumbells is cheap. Walking is free and can even lead to jogging. CAD says get a bike. main thing is to start, just like you did on Jan 3.

Yes and my first roommate had a dog so the pet deposit is already paid, but he moved out and there hasn't been a dog since. And LOL I had that Q up for a while and already called the guy that's giving it away.

Yeah I'm not getting a gerbil
How much are annual shots? Can't be that much. Anything under $100 I can cover no problem. I've been wanted a dog BADLY for about a year now. I've told myself time and time again to just wait until I get a house with a back yard.. but that's a long time away.
Plus once I lose weight and I'm taking my dog to the dog park, easy way to pick up hotties amarite?

3rd day
I'm not going to make much of the change. Could just be water weight.

Change is welcome, no matter what kind of weight.
What diet did you decide on?
Posted on 4/13/11 at 11:16 am to Hulkklogan
Well I haven't decided on a particular diet. I think I'm just going to omit a few things that were contributing to my poor health.
Alcohol
Ice Cream
Chocolate Milk
Tempura at Japanese places
I think if I just try to be mindful of what I eat and exercise I'll be ok. I didn't eat really terrible before. It was a lack of exercise and the occasional sweet tooth and drinking binges that did me in.

Gotcha. Well good luck man, I wish the best.

I'm gonna try to skim the first 15-20 off just by making better choices.
If I start to hit a plateau I might look into an actual diet like atkins or WW

Had set a mini goal for myself of 240 by spring break, looks like I won't quite get there but I'll be pretty close.

can i confess a dirty little secret?
several times after work i've gone over for 2-3 beers..and then i felt full afteward and skipped dinner when i came home and went straight to bed.
almost every time without fail i'm a pound lighter the next day..and it doesn't come back either.
so alcohol doesnt always derail you..if you dont combine it with 'the munchies' later on. a couple beers can be very filling if you're trading that out for a calorie-heavy dinner.

my problem is that it is rarely just 1-2 with me....I don't even keep beer in the fridge M-F...
Posted on 4/13/11 at 1:26 pm to CAD703X
My problem is it's usually about 8 jack and cokes

I've figured this out too, except I've done it with carbless alcohol. Primarily vodka and sprite zero, but I also did Crown and coke zero.
The thing about alcohol and Atkins - and this is from Dr. Atkins himself - alcohol doesn't knock you out of ketosis. The carbs in beer will but the alcohol will not. Your body will burn the alcohol and as soon as it's done burning it your body will go right back to burning fat unless you consume too many carbs while drunk

Change to coke zero and you can consume some jack and coke without too much repercussions.

I didn't cross the 230 plateau yesterday or today like I was hoping for. I've been stuck on 230-232 since Saturday. Eating little.
I'm actually at 5-6 weeks, not 4. I started this seriously a little over 3 weeks ago (24 days, actually), but was at 247 at that point. I had already lost 8 pounds from my high of 255 a few weeks before. I just started cutting back at that point without really monitoring it. I would just skip sweets and fried stuff and ate less overall.
24 days ago I started very strictly and have lost 17 more. I'm working off the 255 number though, becauase that was my high and it was about 6 weeks ago and I decided I had to do something about this.

be patient. Its not going up either.

True.
I just can't get to 200 fast enough. I've got to slow down in thinking about it though and just do the right things and not worry about it. For 24 days, I've been kind of obsessed. I need to think about something else.
