Just moved and only have space for 1 type of outdoor grill. Never been a huge cooker/griller, But starting to get the itch now.

Only really familiar with charcoal and propane (the very basics), but I’ve been seeing a lot of people really praise the traeger smokers. Also have a couple buddies who love their large flat propane griddles.

I like to eat everything, and cook most inside on a cast iron skillet currently. I know this is broad information, but if you only have the space for one thing, what are you getting and why?

If I had space for one thing, I think it would be nothing I own. I would probably go with a Big Green Egg.
You can grill, smoke, and buy different attachments for pizza, a griddle, etc

If it had to be something I own, it would probably be my Blackstone.

Between the choices I would narrow down to smoker or griddle. I have a traeger and a propane but tend to use the smoker a lot more

If it helps, I just moved to new house and I’m in a similar boat as yours. I could probably fit both, but I went with the Griddle for the time being. I feel like there is more that I can do and I didn’t want to deal with scrubbing a grill clean and the upkeep. I may get a smoker at some point down the road.

Weber Kettle. Cheap and versatile as hell. Low and slow or hot and fast. Two zone cooking is no problem. Doesn't take up much room. All kinds of accessories, as well.

If I could only have one, I wouldn't do an egg because I would want to be able to set up cooking zones. Some ceramics have options now to split the fire box though. I'd still get a grill that I can set up for smoking like a weber kettle or a PK.

I just bought the Masterbuilt Gravity Series 560 this past weekend.

It's a digital charcoal smoker/grill. Smoked two pork tenderloin last night that turned out great. Cooks from 150 degrees to 700 degrees. It's awesome so far.

I have one of these, can charcoal grill, smoke, or use the propane grill/burner.

You sacrifice some grilling surface for the versatility, but I haven't run out of room yet.

This is the answer if you are planning to do any smoking. As it is the jack of all trades and gives you the charcoal flavors the pellet grills can not.

Plus being able to ramp up temperature quickly is a huge plus when grilling.

If going cheap, cant go wrong with a Weber Kettle.

Weber Kettle

This. You can even go Weber Performer that comes with a table and a few accessories. Very easy to move around, too.

Those things last a very long time and have excellent heat control.

Me personally - if I wanted ease, then I would get a pellet with sear ability. If I wanted a jack of all trades, then a ceramic. If I wanted something to tinker with, then an offset smoker with charcoal grate for direct grilling. I'm selling my ceramic now for an offset smoker with direct grilling capability just because I like to tinker with things and built fire.

I’m limited on space too and I like the pellet grill/smoker. Easy cleanup and does a lot of different things such as grills, smokes, bakes, sears, and can braise when you put meat in a cast iron skillet or dutch oven. That easy clean up on ashes is very handy. Dump your pellets in the hopper and turn the thing on and aways you go.

If I only had room for 1 grill it would 100% be a 22" Weber Kettle. You can smoke or grill meats and if you want you could even put a hot plate on it and use it as a griddle.

A 22" Weber kettle is the answer for an all in one IMO.

I'm still waiting to pull the trigger on one of these. I've seen various reviews on the durability and want to see how they hold up in the long run

Masterbuilt Gravity Series

I have the 1050 & bought the Fire Box Mod to extend the life of the fire box which fixes the corrosion issue.

$499 for the 560 plus $115 for the mod = $614 is still well below what you'd pay for a sawdust smoker with the same cooking surface area.
