just bought my first pellet grill (rec teq 590) and wanted to see if anyone can recommend the pellets and for overall quality and flavors for different types of meats.

Thanks

Honestly, I haven't seen that much of difference in pellets. I generally buy whatever I find on sale. I have the RT700 and it has a 2 sided hopper. I side is filled with Pit Boss competition blend pellets and the other side is filled with some brand of fruit wood blend pellets.

Meat comes out tasting pretty good to me.

I bought some Traeger pellets as that is what they had in stock at Home Depot. This weekend I'll be switching to Lumberjack if Amazon delivers (hate ordering these and they were expensive) but I wanted to see if a great quality makes a difference in the meats I plan to smoke.

I also have a 590. Several friends all recommended the Lumberjack brand which I couldn't find locally so I ordered though dick's. Once that supply ran out, I started using Kingsford, which I think Recteq recommends.

I’ve been out of Lumbarjack and started using the ones from Sams. They work great.

Lumberjack lasts the longest for me. B&B and KC Masterpiece worked well also. All I use is Hickory

B&B and Pitboss at Academy have been great. The Traeger ones I got at Costco I was not a fan of.

I’d only used lumberjack competition on my bull since I got it until recently. I got some Kingsford on sale from Lowe’s and really like it so far.

I’ve tried every single brand offered around here from my local stores. They all seem to work decent but the one I’ve been buying from Sam’s is probably the best one for me. I think it’s oak, hickory, and cherry. Seems to burn clean because the ashes have been minimal and you get 40 pounds for less than $20. I was leery at first because Traeger, Kingsford, and several other brands only offered 20 pound bags for the same price. When something is half the cost I wondered is it an inferior product or full of something possibly not good but to my surprise they seem to burn cleaner and taste as good as all the others.

I use the smokehouse brand from Sam’s, as well. No complaints here

I’ve used Oklahoma Joe Brand and Bear Mountain. Both did well with no noticeable differences. Trying the Cabelas brand next. Read they are made by Lumberjack and just sold under Cabelas brand name.

Pit Boss competition blend are the general GOAT. I'd stick to Pit Boss and Lumberjack brand, Traeger doesn't have quality pellets.

Kind of related topic but not deserving it's own thread, but how does everyone store pellets long term? I've got 30 bags that the last of them will probably not get used until the end of the year at best. I have heard if you aren't careful that any moisture or humidity in the air will ruin them.

A dry spot is most important, obviously.

Also i think most pellets are pretty similar so long as you make sure they're 100% hardwood with no fillers

I've got 2x 5 gallon buckets with lids from Home Depot. Not sure how long it lasts in the buckets since I just got my pellet grill a few weeks ago. I looked at the Kingsford bins as well but I have 10 buckets at the house so I'm going to give them a try.
