the chimes east recently started using and they seem to update it often. It's nice to be able to pull out my phone and see what they have on rotating tap.
It is nice, but it was also kind of odd when the last time I was there I asked what they had new and the bartender told me to go to beermenus.com rather than just telling me.

and.....Thank you for this.
It's really is a cool little site... The Chimes East and Londoner both do a pretty good job of keeping them updated, especially the Chimes.

wow. That's annoying. I almost always end up walking around the bar at The Chimes east and looking to see what all they've got. Then I'll ask for something such as Enjoy By and get a quizzical look and have to tell them that it's on the other side.

Ave Pub is great about updating their stuff on beermenus. For whatever reason the Bulldog in MidCity sucks (42 days last updated) and the uptown one isn't even on there.

It was. Not a huge deal, but she definitely didn't know/care anything about the beer selection.
I guess I'd rather her tell me about beermenus.com than say something like, "well uh... we have a new Pale Ale from Sierra Nevada, and um, an IPA from Abita..."

If you are not going to train your staff to know what new beers are in that week, then put up a chalk board.
I think some of the staff is still just overwhelmed.

I did try the Abita Mayhawk earlier in the week at Chimes that I was told they just got in.

Let's just say I only had 1.
I'm assuming you didn't like it? I thought it was pretty decent

that too. i can tell some of those girls dont drink beer at all and they are getting swamped by a bunch of beer drinkers and some beer nerds ordering beers they have never had or never heard of before this job.

Wasn't my kind of beer. I was eating oysters, and they definitely didn't pair with the oysters well.

I thought the Mayhawk was Abita's best beer in a good while.

There are definitely plenty of factors.
I've disliked beers that get rave reviews on here before.

It's fine if they want eye candy behind the bar to serve drinks, but the bartenders need to know the menu, be able to know the proper glassware without being told by the customer and be able to make recommendations of beers similar in style. Right now it seems like they only know how to grab a cold glass and pull a tap handle.
Yes, I know 136 beers on tap is a lot. Nobody said bartending there would be easy. If they want easy, they could bartend at On The Border next door.

Completely agree.
Hopefully they are training/teaching.
Being introduced to draft 130 brews they've probably never heard of is a bit overwhelming. Many probably didn't even know there were styles other than lagers, so they are probably literally starting with blank slates there.
I do like a good looking woman that knows her alcohol, so I'm all for their free training.

If they are trying to be a craft beer bar, and I think that they are, than the Avenue Pub is the gold standard and a fair comparison.
I think the place has potential.
If they are serious, they need to educate their staff and/or fire the skirts.

You know that isn't going to happen. Better hope they can pick up quickly.

No need to teach them. Tie something around the tap, say a piece of tape or tie wrap, of a certain color (fancy it up with ribbon, I don't care). Color corresponds to glassware needed..
See tap, see color, get proper glass. No need to memorize.
