I feel like bars in BR are always so desperate for a "theme" in order to target a certain crowd and have guaranteed business from them. Pelican seems to be trying to combine them in order to target various people.

I wouldn't go so far as a theme, but I have a bar for pretty much everything I want to do in town. When I'm feeling X type night, I go do that thing. And maybe that's my fault for trying to put everything in a box, but when I've been to the Pelican House I couldn't think of what I'd go there for specifically, because its not trying to be anything specifically.

I just left from a visit home to Dallas, and BR needs an Ice House type place.

Yea I think they just need to be who theyre going to be and go from there. I think it might be the variety of crowds theyre getting is causing them to try and please everyone, which really cant happen and this thread kinda proves it.

Im kinda confused here. Besides having tits and arse serving the drinks, where are all the other bar gimmicks?

Gimmick is probably strong, and I guess is just a continuation of them doing everything.

They have the T&A waitresses, 60 inch TVs that come out of the ceiling, 130 or whatever it is beer taps, a huge Bourbon list (though I haven't heard of anybody going there for a whiskey), and is open as a lunch spot.

I guess none of that is gimmicks, its just that each of those things is a whole bar concept basically.

The last 2 times I've been to Avenue Pub, the bartenders were assholes.

not really. Having attractive girls serving drinks and tvs isnt a whole bar concept. What bar doesnt have tvs, and what bar's concept is based off of their tvs? What bar owner prefers to hire the ugly girl over the attractive girl? Its not like the girls are dressed like Hooters girls or skanks from Twin Peaks.

I guess having a lot of taps and bourbons is a bar concept. I mean shite its a damn bar.

The only thing I agree is the lunch spot thing. That idea should be scratched unless they plan on making the menu bigger. Like someone said earlier, have a bigger food menu during lunch and cut it down at night.

havent been in there in years but im not surprised. first went in there freshman year of college and they were assholes then.

i used to go with a regular back in the day so we werent treated like that but i did see the bartenders werent the friendliest of people to the random drinkers walking in from the street

Their TV setup is a hop skip and a jump from Sports Bar.

I don't dislike the place, its just that there is a ton going on, and it didn't quit fit to me. Felt busy. I could be way off base, it always seems to have a crowd.

I left this out of my previous post but I like the idea of having retractable tvs like they do. During LSU and Saints games, you have a bunch of tvs so people can watch the games. When the games are over, you raise the tvs and theyre out of the way.

Once again, cant please everyone. If they only had tvs behind the bar, people would be complaining that its a shitty place to watch a game if youre not sitting at the bar.

This is Baton Rouge, they dont have the luxury to narrow their bar concept to 1 thing.

Water is wet.

I have nothing else to add to this discussion. I haven't been to Pelican House yet.

I had some Scotch out of a fancy little tulip snifter thing there the other day. Seemed like the appropriate glass.

Apparently they were selling bottles of Westy XII last night. Had an acquaintance drink one for $60.

That's what I told him.

Actually, I only have 2 left. I really don't want to sell any of them.

The worst part is he probably drank it out of a frosted pint glass.

He did post a pic of it in a snifter that didn't look to be chilled. So at least they're moving in the right direction.
