I'm confident that they can make it work, especially if they are true to their word about taking suggestions and improving based on customer feedback. Most of the owners are more than willing to talk to you about their vision and if you have suggestions. I know that at least one of the owners is on the same side as I am about the food being overpriced. But he said that they were using ingredients that were expensive and not marking the prices up more than normal (which may or may not be accurate). So I believe that will change a little. Hopefully at least. There are a couple of waitresses and bar tenders that are really exceptional, and then others that are struggling. I am chalking that up to newness but you never know.

Its my bar of choice at the moment.

Hm.

Wouldn't know. Being friends with staff changes service so I'm never asked.. Kinda how I am way more casual when waiting on family or friends at work.

This is true. Almost annoyingly so at times.

I didn't find my food expensive. I got the turkey and pork belly sandwich which was very good and large and I think $9 before tip.

I think that is the best priced item on the menu. But an 11 dollar burger with no fries is a bit much, especially when fries are 3 dollars.

That's how much Killer Poboy in the FQ charges for their's. I didn't care for it when I had it / but that's my own personal dislike of the texture of barely cooked pork belly .. not an indictment of the product. 9 bucks is a fair price I think.

I hope they do. They spent some money and are pursuing something they are passionate about. You always hope to see those kinds of people succeed.

The next 6 months will be interesting for them.

I think they really have to be open to adapting and working with ideas though.

Well I guess I'm just a smart orderer ;)

Nah, I agree about the burger being overpriced. We went for an early dinner the other night and Jones ordered the burger. Wasn't bad but we could have done Flemings 5-6-7 and had the best burger around for $6.

Agreed. Plus the time I had the burger the bun sucked. The burger was very good though.

They have a view very obvious weeknesses.

Waitresses that had no clue what the specials were and a few seemed like it was the first time ordering. Sucks to get up to order food as well.

Two food menus that were almost the exact same, but had a few key differences.

Apparently had some beer delivery problems, not sure how often that happens at other places as well though.

Place seems thrown together despite how long it took to remodel.

I have faith all of this will be fixed because they seem to be doing everything top notch. Has a ton of potential.

Has potential. The Avenue Pub it is not.

But there is absolutely no reason it could not become one.

I'd reallly like tasters. One of my favorite things about the avenue pub is their tasters.

Sitting on the Couch ordering a flight of tasters would keep me there for a good long while.

I could be wrong, but I just don't see a space that large in Baton Rouge ever being as craft-centric as Avenue Pub.

This place makes the Bulldog food look cheap. Small dishes & high prices. No thanks I'll just drink when I go there for now on.

This is the common complaint I've been hearing. The place is not a restaurant. Its a place to drink and maybe grab a bite to eat when you've had a few drinks.

I had the burger just to try it but I won't be going there to eat in the future.

I agree, the beer selection is really good

Well I think the confusion with the food comes in because they open at lunch time every day. If you are wanting people to come eat lunch on their lunch break and whatnot during the week, you can't just be a bar with a bite to eat.

Personally, if I owned the joint, I wouldn't even be attempting to be a restaurant during the day. I'd open at 4pm like a bar does. But I'm not the owner and I'm sure they have their own reasons/vision.

They may need to come down on their food prices a touch. I agree about the $11 burger. It's a good burger, you can tell they didn't throw a frozen patty on the grill, but it's not so good they can charge $11 for it without fries.

The frosted pint glasses piss me off. They swore up and down they'd ask everyone before pouring. The staff is either not properly trained or just doesn't care and reaches for the frosted mug because that's easier. The simple solution is to not keep them cold at all.

I haven't been in nearly 2 weeks, so I don't know if they've gotten their snifters in or not. But I sure don't trust the bartenders to figure out which beer belongs in a snifter. They just don't care.

Their beer selction does need some improvement. For all the taps they have, not to have beers like Timber Beast, Goose Island Sofie, etc is a disgrace.

For a bar that is supposed to be a big craft beer place, their events for ACBW were weak.

I do love the non-smoking and the concept of the place. I think with proper staff training, some different size pours, and flights, it can become the place I envisioned it.

They have, but I agree.

I'll give them a pass on that this year, because they had just opened and many ACBW brews are thought of and planned months in advance. If it's the same next year then shame on them.

and it may never be but im going to defend pelican house because theyre my friends and i think this is an unfair comparison.

Avenue Pub has been around for how many years? Theyre an established bar. Pelican House has been open for almost 2 months. Give them a little time before you compare them to the best beer bar in NOLA and one of the best in the city itself. The guys running the place are around 30yrs old and have dumped a ton of money into the place and are trying to appease everyone while not going under. Give them time

The Avenue Pub is on a corner spot on St. Charles Ave smack in the middle of the Garden District, 2 minutes from the WHD, 5 minutes from the CBD and the Quarter, and 5 minutes from Uptown. You couldnt ask for a better location. There isnt a spot in Baton Rouge that could even come close to this ideal of a location.
