That's good. I'd demand proper glassware if I were paying that much for a beer.

I have three... I don't really want to either, but that doesn't mean I wouldn't.
I tried to sell one of mine for 50 but someone undercut me and sold it for 40. I was fine with it though, I dont mind hanging onto it.
My impression of the Pelican House is that they tried from the get go to be the best. They took the best aspects of other popular bars, namely the Bulldog, around town and tried to one up them. Personally I think they are successful at most of the stuff.

What's up with all this hate on the Pelican House??
Me and my gf went a few weeks ago and I enjoyed the hell outta it. Smoke free, huge tap selection (not a lot of rares/hard to finds but that's what Calandros and trades are for), friendly staff, and the place is huge. Glassware doesn't bother me at a bar that is catering to a "general audience". When I went a few weeks ago I saw everything from beer snobs to BMC drinkers.
So you can all take that frosted pint glass and shove it up your asses. Place is legit.

I swear I think reading comprehension on this board is at a third grade level some times.
If you read this thread and think it's a bunch of people hating on the place, you no read good.
It's legitimate thoughts, concerns, and ideas that people would like to see in the place. It's the whole frickin point of a discussion board.

I agree. So since this is a dicussion board, I voiced my opinion on why I liked the place. By saying something positive about it, when the majority of the recent posts were negitive, I just enticed...a dicussion.

You also started off by saying that you didn't get the hate. There doesn't appear to be much hate in this thread.
Just because everyone isn't offering up blow job type praise about a place, doesn't mean they hate it.

But you got upset at others for expressing theirs?

I actually think its quite the opposite, I think everyone is offering constructive criticism because they want to see the place succeed.

This.

This. The combination of large tap selection and smoke free launched it up among my favorite bars in the city, in spite of the current problems. Frankly, I hope someone points the owners to this thread. I think there is a substantial amount of constructive criticism that could quickly, easily, and cheaply be remedied.
Using temporary color coding string/ribbon/tape for the taps is one of the most brilliant ideas I've ever heard when it comes to the science of running a bar.

What is more profitable: a BMC addict sitting down and having 4 or 5 Bud Lights or a beer snob have 4 or 5 craft beers? What is the pricing like?
I ask because if a bar has too many BMC type folks whooping and hollering at the dozen huge flat screen TVs about MMA or basketball or something that could create an atmosphere where the beer nerds don't want to go there anymore. But if the BMC drinkers are the ones driving your revenue and the craft beer is there simply to get a few different type people in the door then it wouldn't be a problem.

The pricing (on the crafts at least) is a little on the high side.
My guess would be that the BMC bottles have a higher mark-up. Just a guess, though.

Wasn't meant to be taken seriously. A jab at those who are upset at the glassware. I understand most of us enjoy certain glassware for certain beers but I don't see why it's a big deal if a bar doesn't carry it. Especially one that just opened to the public a month ago.

In the long run it means little, but if you are gonna claim that you're a beer bar and are catering to that crowd, you pour the beer into the proper glassware at the correct temperature.

The thing with glassware is not only the shape, but the number of oz per serving. A really expensive/strong beer can be served in a 8.5 oz glass at a reasonable price. Take for example my local beer bar's menu. They list the beer, number of ounces, ABV, and beer advocate score on the menu. Also has a helpful guide for the BMC drinkers in the beginning to try to get them to branch out a little.
