Hops are harvested all at once and then packaged. Most are turned into pellets, which further homogenizes them.

Except for the ones that are put in the fresh hop beers. I think we've had a great summer, and we should have some record-setting crops. More excess hops means more for the local brewers to experiment with.

How fresh is the canebrake over there? I'm not going for anything over 2 weeks old.

Fair enough. But that's a pretty drastic change when it seemed they had locked in something that was working for them. Maybe they didn't have any choice in the matter though.

You really would be surprised at the flavor change of hops dependent on a multitude of factors.

Mosaic is a big one. You can get citrus, blueberry, or you crap out and get the green onion/garlic harvest.

Citra can go from bright citrus, to cat pissy like Simcoe (according to a pro brewer on a beer podcast).

Also, too many hops, and your hop flavors become grassy and vegetal. Too few, and its not enough.

I struggle more with brewing IPA's than any other style. Maybe it's because i tinker around too much and try out a multitude of varietals. My last IPA was generously hopped with Nelson Sauvin, Galaxy, and Amarillo. I was expecting some clean citrus notes with juiciness. I don't get any of that. I get a hop presence but i can't distinguish a particular character.

My next IPA to brew will be a DIPA with citra, mosaic, simcoe, amarillo, and galaxy. At least, that's the initial plan. It's either that or i rebrew the only IPA i brewed that i found was incredible, where i used, citra, amarillo, and columbus.

I hate to say it but this is accurate. I'm not sure if deciding to make it a semi regular brew has effected it or not. My take is that they are trying to cash in on the buzz they created and ended up killing the gains they made.

The only reason i'm not drinking ghost is because its an epic pain in the dick to get any, and with Envie readily available, i don't care to drive around to every grocery store in BR to have them sell me 1 bottle at a time.

Remember when Louisisna craft beer sucked? It was just 2 years ago. Some people don't deserve nice things.

I dunno. I quit hunting as well. The only way i get it is if i luck up and they have it at the place i'm at. Or if i'm in the general vicinity of the brewery during a release, which i have been the last couple releases.

No kidding. We finally get one of our breweries to make some really great beer, and everybody loses their shite that batch 14 isn't exactly like batch 11. Who the frick cares? Is it good? Then drink it. If you don't like it, don't drink it.

I'll grab a 4-pack when it comes to BR next week and decide for myself. But I'm not going to fricking overanalyze it. If it's hoppier than it is malty, chances are I'm gonna like it a lot. And if it tastes different than the last batch, so what?

I pay $72 per case of GITM, and it's like its bread being rationed in the Cold War Soviet Union, I don't think consistency is a whole lot to ask. What's the point of a brand that's never the same?

Most know that every batch may be a little different. I do sort of wish they will say what they are going for if one batch is different than the other so people can expect it.
