We’re planning an outdoor kitchen and part of me is leaning toward the BGE.

Is there a definitive winner here or just personal preference?

a gas grill is just an indoor oven.

I've owned a BGE since 2012.

It is great for everything, but annoying if you just want to throw 2-3 steaks on quickly.

Get both, you need both.

Big green egg XL owner for 10 years, this thing is so much more versatile than a gas grill, you will be sadly disappointed if you plan your outdoor kitchen around a gas grill. Granite it takes a little longer to get started up but I can assure you you will not smoke a brisket for a pork roast for 8 to 16 hours on a gas grill, or cook a pizza on it, much less all the other things that can be done on a big green egg or any of the other knock offs

Boston.

Sold. Thank you man. I’ve also seen the griddle plate and it’s at the top of my list for an XL.

I always had a gas grill and bought a Kamado Joe about two years ago. Consider what you plan to cook and who you’re cooking for. I love the KJ for smoking, but if you use a grill for burgers, steaks, chicken and sausage, get a gas grill.

It's not an outdoor kitchen if you only have one option. You need both or more, just my opinion

I have a built in gas grill and an electric smoker.

Does the job for me.

My neighbor has a green egg and it's nice, but most of our cooking is steaks or burgers/dogs by the pool.

If I want to smoke a chicken or pork butt I roll out the MES.

What?

No, it is just the prep time etc. Sometimes you just want to throw meat on it for 5mins, a quick snack or steak for the afternoon.

We have a big smoker and BGE, so we are doing a flat top grill in ours.
