Is there a definitive winner here or just personal preference?

Hot and fast = gas grill

Longer cooks (+45 minutes) = BGE

Pizza = BGE or Ooni

Depends on what you like to grill/cook

Why not both?

I'm building an patio and outdoor kitchen currently. I already have a gas grill/offset smoker combo and a BGE, so building a blackstone flaptop grill into the outdoor kitchen, but it'll be sized for a gas grill in the future if we want to go that direction.

The BGE will remain free-standing so I can wheel it out from under the patio.

if you plan your outdoor kitchen around a gas grill. Granite

I'm planning on using granite in my new outdoor kitchen (new construction)

We're going with quartzite in the house but granite is a good bit less expensive for outside

A gas grill is a definite but I'm also considering adding a BGE . Never used one but they sound nice based on this thread

Add in to get both

Have a BGE, inherited a Weber Summit when we moved. I use both pretty regularly. Anything truly flavor dependent I do on the BGE, but the Summit gets used a lot for non-feature chicken (salads, etc.), smash burgers, breakfast, etc.

If grilling only, it takes about 15 minutes to get a clean burn going and up to temp. A little slower than gas but manageable.

A ceramic grill will prove more versatile than a gas grill.

If only one, roll with a ceramic.

I've had a Kamado Joe for 12 years and use it 2-3 times a week, no complaints at all. Having said that I'm building a built in flat top/grill combo from Camp Chef soon on my patio, and will have the Kamado Joe free standing. The camp chef griddle has a nicer look to it than the Blackstone I've seen, and you can remove the griddle and use it as a grill. This will cover all my needs.
