My wife and I have a quick 48h trip to NYC Friday midday through Sunday. We have theatre tickets Saturday night but are looking for food recs for Friday and Saturday night.

Friday we will likely be near Rock center at dinner time, and Saturday night we will be in Theatre District.

We like to try new foods, and enjoy restaurants with fresh seasonal menus. Not opposed to a good steakhouse but we are willing to be adventurous.

Any ideas are appreciated!

Grab a reservation at Le Coucou. I cannot recommend it highly enough.

Le CouCou is the best meal I’ve ever had. The Sole was unbelievable. If you are willing to spend the money that would be the 1st place I booked.

echo here, but I also did Le Coucou, and got the sole as well as the sweetbreads and the seafood stuffed cabbage.

Also really enjoyed Rubirosa (italian) and John's Bleeker St pizza.

How much are you looking to spend, and are you looking for fine dining or hole in the wall?

I’m good with just about anything.

Le Coucou doesn’t have any availability - is this the type of place you can get lucky and walk in to?

Del Posto.

About a 15 minute taxi from 30 Rock.

I doubt it. It recently received its first Michelin Star so it’s a popular place right now.

Good to see it finally got a star.

Grand Central Oyster Bar and get the Manhattan Clam Chowder and anything else you want.

If you do it...you will do it every time you go to NYC.

Rudy's for cheap drinks and free hotdogs.

This. I clicked on this topic to share this identical recommendation.

Had my first experience there a month ago. It made me a believer. Sitting at the oyster bar is probably the best seats in the house.

I’m now 100% committed to dining there for at least one meal every time I return.

Union Square Cafe

I'd suggest Union Square Café (or whatever you choose for your relaxing sit down dinner) on Friday, when you're not doing the theater.. and find something in the theater district with a pre-theater menu on Saturday, like La Masseria, Carmine's (as has been mentioned) or even Le Bernardin has a pre theater menu.
Go somewhere Saturday night for drinks after the theater, like the bar at the Four Seasons Hotel.

Per Se was an awesome experience. Food and service were both stellar.

Thanks to all - we will work in what we can. I ate at the Oyster Bar today - enjoyed the Manhattan clam chowder and some oysters. Tonight I ate at Capital Grille (hosted by company putting on event I’m attending) - truly an outstanding meal.

If you want a light supper and/or drinks after the theater, Balthazar is open late and it's a good time.
