I understand that you are in Manhattan, but Peter Luger's steakhouse in Brooklyn is worth the uber ride. It is right off the brooklyn bridge, so it isn't a far drive. Absolutely amazing

Depending on your mood, you can hit Ellen's. Decent food and the wait staff sings. It's a fun place.

I haven't been in a while, but it's not too secret from what I recall

I remember thinking the same as you and it was some hidden gem. It's not. It's a cool spot though

The recommendations given are good, but to me those are all kind of the "stuffy" places in NYC. They are all really good places to eat for sure, so if you can get in do it, but they are also $185+ per person.

I have had great times and great food at these 2 spots the last couple times i've been in town:

1. The Clam in West village
2. Pylos East Village

Trying to think of good spots near where you will be.

Sea Grille in Rock center is a good spot, but overpriced. In fact everything in that area will be

Maloney & Porcelli has a great Pork Shank and it's close

Johns of Times Square is a pretty good pizza spot near the theater district

In reality, the area you will be in both evenings are not great food areas. A lot of the stuffy steak type places.

Yea.. I'll go with a friend when I'm travelling in or out of the city or meeting someone after work before they catch the train out.. I'm not making a special trip to Grand Central for it. The history of the room though, is really great..

Another spot that visitors might like is the rooftop of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. The sculpture garden has a wonderful view of the city. And there’s a great coffee shop and restaurant at the Met.
